I had stock steelies widened to 8" and had swampers on them on my 60 for a while...

Why hasn't anyone mentioned that you can go to any wrecking yard and pick up a set of stock chevy old school rims for like 10 bucks each. I have a set. They look just like the ones in the first pic, but are stock white.

I did mention it, but was told that the center opening is not big enough. What year and model chevy should I mention next time I go to the local yard to get the correct rim? ...looking for a spare set to mount "regular" tires on, and save my '64 rims for correct 700 x 15 rubber

Thought I'd throw in this number just in case you want to go with splits. I called toyota here in japan and they said the split number I gave them had been superseded with this number: 42610-60111-03. I considered them for a while- they are about $140 each here in Japan plus I'd need to get tubes and liners. The thought of losing all the air at once in case of a blowout as well as chasing a good balance swayed me in a different direction.

I might be in for a set if you go with a group buy- but I'll have to think about it for a bit. I was going to try and find a set of stock wheels in the U.S. and have them widened but @ $135 per wheel the savings would make it worth while to go with this GB. Keep us up to date.

The 235/85 R16 is sweet and 16" tires do often come with a higher load rating than the 15's- so I went with a set of 70 series steelies out of convenience. But I do need a second set for winter so...... The 70 series wheels have an offset of 0 and a backspace of about 3.6" (91mm.) The only thing for me is that the 235 visibly extends from the rear fender just a few mm's and for this reason I have to change the wheels for the yearly inspection which is a big PITA. The 3.5 BS will not solve this problem. For me a 3.75 backspace would be the cats pajama's. What increments is the BS available in?

Keep us informed about the possibility of a GB. Definitely interested.

First post; Thought I'd shed some light on the Chevy wheel deal since I've been looking into it:

The center bore is not big enough. It's 3.5" on a 60's chevy 1/2 ton wheel and needs to be ~4.2" to fit a 40 hub. Also the FJ hubcaps have to be "relief cut" on the retaining rings since the chevy retaining rings are 8" and the FJ's are 8.25". Lastly you must tweak the chevy clips out (tighten gap) to grip the FJ caps. That, or install FJ clips on the chevy wheels I suppose.

But it seems to be doable. I enlarged my center bores with a plasma. And the best news is you can find 16.5x8.25 Chevy wheels that fit like a dream. Just have to get them balanced with a lug-centric balancer... That is unless you want to pony up for a perfectly machined center bore, which will only be used for balancing.

Yes this 40 needs some love, we just got it.

the stockies on a HDJ78/79 or VDJ7# cruiser are what ur looking for, im sure u could pester ur local stealer to order a set from here in Aust or Japan

Are these 16" and non-split? Can you get a part number?

Robbie- any chance you have a part number for those? Or at least a year number? I'd be able to check on availability here in but without a serial number or part number its just about impossible.

i looked up the numbers for these rigs HDJ78/79 or VDJ7# cruiser

and the parts catalog lists them using a steel wheel and a aluminum wheel
but the steel wheel looks like type H in this diagram (see pic) i am assuming from past searches that people are after type A and here are some more numbers for type A Steel wheel
some new numbers showed up only difference listed is that the previous numbers posted
are for grey/grey wheels ,the newer numbers list the same style of wheel being painted silver/silver
i don't no if that means chrome or not ? usually when the wheel is chrome the parts catalog lists it as chrome.
anyways here are the numbers found for both type A
wheels

grey/grey

#42610-60111-03 grey
#42610-60022.03 grey

silver/silver

#42610-60142-03
#42610-60052-03
#42610-60141-03

see pic for type A for the 70 series wheel options

....P.S. i did not no toyota sold tires they list a 31x10.5x15
as a stock tire for some of the 70's series

There is a 16 inch steel greyish / silver painted 60 series style rim available from TOYOTA. It comes up as a forklift / industrial part. To my knowledge they are cheap; as in under $100 a wheel!
I do not have the number present at the moment, but I have seen these in person.

do you no what forklift uses this wheel . i also have the Toyota industrial equipment EPC see pic :grinpimp:

it lists lots of stuff for the 2F running on propane also .
