I am looking for input on using these jump starters for my 100 series and the v8. Anyone with personal experience? I am considering the XP-1 but also looking at the XP-10 (50% more capacity marketed for diesels) and XP-5 (same capacity but without some bells and wistles).

The over-build it side of me wants the XP-10 but the practical side says the others are fine.

Opinions? Thanks for any input.

One of my post from the thread george-tlc linked

I have started my LC 3 times back to back with NO battery installed

Some like anything else have not had the same results. Mine was part of large Toyota dealership purchase for the service department last Aug and no failures so far.

I just thanked the friend who gifted mine to me on how much use me and others have had with it.

Mine is an XP-1

Thanks guys. I was trying to avoid the weight, cost and complexity of a dual battery system by going with a larger single battery and one of these. Most of the issue is cost as I would only use AGM batteries.

I have the XP-1 and XP-10. The 10 is 800 CCA and the 1 is 600.
I use them quite a bit.

Talked with a friend last night using a just purchased XP-10.He is on the four start of his diesel without charging. Same packaged size of the XP-1 but with a lot more power.

Is the extra power for the ~25% more cost worth it for a guy with a gas engine?

Just depends I guess. Have a 60 & just purchased a XP-10. Only thing I've charged so far is a cell phone. I got the XP-10 'cause you never know when you will have someone along with a diesel.

Amazon price for the XP1 was about $109 and the Xp-10 was $124. For me the xtra $$ was worth it. I forget, how many USB ports does the XP1 have ? The 10 has two.

Btw, doing Pyeatte on Tuesday.

XP-3 jumps the 4.7L V8 in my GX perfectly fine, so the others should work as well or better.

These things should be mandatory gear - so useful for so many things, then once you're running you can recharge it...........

The XP-1 should be in my hands tomorrow

I am in the process of switching from my kerosene latern, to propane. Now with this thing, I think a battery powered lighting device is the way to go, to recharge it with the XP.

I picked up a XP-1 from Amazon. Looks like a solid product.

^^^not really rechargeable, as the lantern base does the recharging of the light "pods" with 8 D cells.

The instructions are in poorly written English, so hopefully the engineers did better than google translate.

Just wanted to provide some feedback. I recently purchased a XP-1 in anticipation of a week long camping trip. I tried it a few time before leaving just to make sure there weren't any issues but didn't expect to actually need it on the trip. One morning while alone in a remote area north of lake Powell the battery went dead (<9V) from trying to charge too many electronic devices. Break out the Antigravity and the truck starts right up

Good feeling isn't it. I now keep my XP10 in the 60 all the time...hate to say it but it's like my cell phone, don't want to leave home without it.

I got the XP-10 since I felt I was saving money still by not going dual battery, and it was still cheaper than the jump or ticket I'd have to get in NYC if I didn't move my truck. worked like a charm. yes a bit bigger in size but still tiny compared to other truck items.

probably overkill but also nice to know I can charge other stuff inside the truck easily and still have juice left over.

An Xp1 won't jumpstart a 12v start converted hdj81 if anyone wants to know. I didn't think it would since it's only rated for something like a 2.4 litre diesel, but thought I'd give it a try.

Was the battery hooked up when you tried?
If battery voltage is low enough to where you only get a click (I only have experience with a gas starters) I have found you will need to disconnect the battery in order for a jump box to work.
