The East coast people sometimes don't have a lot to choose from. As this sits the price is $1000.00. Is it crazy to be looking at a project like this? It would be a complete restore with the help of all the purist on here. I looked it over once and plan to go back and make the call.
The fact that it is a FST makes me a little more interested. Looked like most the parts are there. The bows are not perfect and a top of some kind is in the back. Pictures may not be enough to give anyone an idea of the scope or the rust, but this is all I have till I make a trip.
My last project took only 5 years to do, so I have time.
Thoughts, both good and bad are welcome.

I'm not sure about $1000, but it does have value. It likely needs a tub. If it has a frame left, it could be worthwhile... If the price was right.

I already see 1K in parts...

buy for 500-800... fix it up as a LONG term build

300-500 for the doors
300-500 for the bows
300-500 for the tailgate

more for each when cleaned up

That's the first thing I saw was at least that in parts. The Misses see's a rusty land cruiser sitting in the back yard when we have a perfectly good one in the garage that we never drive.
Just something about the FST...
If the weather holds out, I may try and go see and check out the frame. It is sitting low and could be rusted out.

I see the question more as is this a parts donor for a build, or a truck to build.

You'll need another 1/2 a truck to build a whole.

I agree that there's 1K in parts sitting there. Remember that to get it restored, you're going to put in twice the amount of money and labor than if you found another one that was running and decent. YES, it can be fun working on them, but I've seen this story time and time again. The better alternative might be finding a more solid rig in the $2-5K range, if you've got the cash.

Worst case you've got a OEM top for your truck, and parts to sell to pay for it.

From my understanding.. A restore is to bring it back to 1972 showroom quality all original (as can be) and a build would be to bring it back with things like disk brakes, that give it a safer ride. I have a 62 with all the running gear and thought about going that route, but I didn't do justice to my 82 (40) so I'm gathering the information from anyone that has something to say.
I would think shoes are fine, disc maybe better.??

I'm very happy with discs... Done with newer parts they look stock, but require less maintenance.

Mark (Marks Off Road) swears by upgraded drums.

I just received some pics from under the hood. Plan to go see on Saturday.

Looks like it is not going to stop very easy.
Maybe pretty stock??

Looks mostly stock. Dual circuit master will work well with disc brakes. :D

Good god that's a rusty engine! Still, I say save her, I love '72s.

My wife and neighbors would kill me if I brought something home wit that much rust. That to me looks like a parts donor instead of a build candidate, but I've become spoiled living out west. If I still lived in IL, I would probably be thinking it was a resto project like you are.

Is a dual circuit master on a 62?

I'm thinking more of a parts truck now. May not be able to register it.

Never met a broken bolt I couldn't drill out, tap and move on. But I am sure there are some out there.

62 didn't have a vacuum booster or a dual circuit master. It all looks stock so I'd say 72ish.

A labor of love to restore this one-but it could be done(with the time and the $)
Otherwise, there are more than $1k parts in there-so-------

You sure the '82 is running? Ya know, it's not like we've seen it (hint, hint). Xmas party coming up...

I would love to drive the 40 to a party this year. Tried to surprise the other half with a tag and insurance for Christmas last year and was shot down for the expense of it all.
Now I have been asked to pass on this one, because I have to many fires burning already.
It will be sold. Buyer has multiple offers now.
Thanks for all the input.
