so when are you going to provide a template to cut out the side trim and a build list for the do it yourselfer...hahaha They look great.

Great idea. Better idea is have folks paypal you $10 for it.. would be some nice  money if nothing else! But great work, man.

The one I'm designing looks a lot like that. I'm glad to hear the slee/allegis t handle bolts are quality.

Just got mine today...fast shipping, and they are pretty impressive. $70 for the pair.

Got everything mounted up, but now am seriously debating ditching the 24" drawers and going with a 36". Thinking I'll use the drawer depth way more than the two cubbyholes at the rear.

Any feedback on this from those of you that already have storage systems?

I'll be glad to post drawings, measurements, and a parts list up, but don't know about mailing stuff out...that sounds like a lot of time to me!

Seriously though...the side cuts were actually very easy. Just stuck a pencil through a pointed scrap of wood and traced the contours onto a scrap piece of ply. Cut that out, then traced onto my finish plywood. Took 10 mins. The key is to keep the pencil/jig at a firm right angle. Nothing to it. Got that trick off MUD (Zane, i think?).

Do you have anything that's that long, that needs to be in a drawer? As long as your torque wrench, etc. all fit in the 24" I'd leave it at that. It can be cumbersome trying to reach past 35" of stuff to get to that nut that rolled back to the last inch.. also if you ever need to open them in a parking garage, parking lot, what if there's a tree behind you, etc. it's nice IMO to have shorter drawers.

In my homebrew setup in the 80, I left the area between the seats and the drawers open. I usually put my heaviest stuff there, like tools, fed in from up top either over the back seat or up and over the drawer behind it. It's enough space that sleeping bags, guitars, tools, backpacks, all can ride just behind the back seat. Heck for a while I had a hi lift mounted between the wheel wells. Covering that area up was wasted to me, pain in the butt to reach back in there from the back, and pain to also remove enough junk from on top to flip open a hatch or whatever, then something falls in the hole and it's gone, or the hatch doesn't close... Having nothing at all between the drawers and the back seats has proven to be my favorite, FWIW. but I don't ever plan to sleep on it.

One thing I've been considering is going with the 36" slides and allowing for a near full extension, but to address nakman's concerns, placing lockable and hinged panel near the second row seats, to access the deep end of the drawers. That way you can still access the full contents of the drawer, even if you're not able to pull the drawers out 36". It will also make accessing the front seat mounts much easier, so you can remove the system without having to disassemble it.

Security is the prime concern for me and I don't want the drawers to be able to be accessed or removed with out a key. This is why I'm weary of utilizing any external anchoring devices that can be accessed without having the drawer open. The locking hinged panel up front would accommodate all these concerns.

I went ahead and stuck with the 24" drawers, but finished it out in a way that will allow me to switch one or both to a 36" drawer in the future if need be.

Unit is done except for painting the inside, carpeting the outside.

Hope to put up final pics, etc by this time next week.

Everything has been flush fit, fitment panels cut, drawers tested, etc. Disassembled tonight and primed with black spray primer for all surfaces, and black rubberized coating (similar to LineX) for insides of drawers and storage compartments.

Final coat of paint/seal tomorrow, hopefully carpet on Fri/Sat, and in the truck before the weekend is up.

looking forward to seeing them assembled!

A quick question.

Why did you not make full length drawers, is it a personal preference thing or can the sliders not handle the full length.

I only ask because i have seen that most guys don’t go full length.

Kind of a mixture of all of the above, i think. Honestly, most all of the drawer builds on MUD have the storage compartments at the rear, so when I researched the build, i kind of had that seared in my brain.

After having built it, i can see where the storage comes in very handy...especially if you build it so you can access it from the rear seats.

Those look great guys! Too bad the drawers lose so much space to the structure (bottom/sides). I guess the bottom is moot because it need to be up enough to clear the gate. Is there anything that can be done to reduce the waste on the sides? I guess this would be a benefit to having the metal framing of the ARB or Slee drawers.

You're right on both accounts. The bottom is necessary to get the drawers over the gate. And the space loss, I would guess anyway, is 100% due to the fact that the system is wood. A metal/plastic system would definitely give you a lot more drawer volume.

But since i only have about $225 in it right now, I'll take the space loss!

OK, finished up the drawers today, and I must say I'm very happy with how they turned out. My carpentry was so-so, but the guy that upholstered it for me made it look almost like a purchased system.

Fit is great on all sides, panels fold in/out with ease, drawers slide smooth.

Also can't say enough about the latch hardware, it's very impressive and easy to set up.

Pics below.

Initial frame...painted and rough fit, and final product.
