So Engine is in and now ordering radiator and fuel filter, oil filter, oil, heh spark plugs are in good shape. I'm taking it to Home so I can make the piping and finish the wiring there.

That's my daughter helping me paint the frame before final installation!!!! She can't wait to go camping!!

As I was crawling around I found that the brake line in the front is split. I gotta get longer ones anyway, where should I go to get them?? I'll check with Manny next door at COOLCRUISERS.COM - Toyota Land Cruiser Parts & Restoration and see if he has any in stock.\

ALL IN ALL fitment was..... like my favorite actor says "LLLlllliiiiiiike a glove....."

got some work done this week, but slow now.

Pic of the exhaust and radiator. I didn't realize it was the early style manifolds with the egr on them so I hacked them off and welded that up, and I hacked off the stupid looking flanges and opted for some V-band flanges. I'm also going to have a 3.5" exhaust with one or two mufflers depending on if momma likes it... Basically I will have 3" downpipes with flex sectionsthat merge into one 3.5" pipe down below the engine and all the way out to a 4.5" polished tip.
Why? Because I can. No other reason.

If you look on the drivers side, I had to extend that pipe out and it still needs more adjustment, so I just tacked the pipe for now. It is tight by the frame and steering shaft, since I have it at home and not at work, it will probably take me a few trips to get the angle of the dangle just right. I'll get down pipes on it and just drive it to work to finish the rest of the exhaust.

nice! keep up with the momentum and finish this great project! There is not an 80 owner who has not thought about this swap. me included!

wow, that right there is quality. great job. i am envious not only of the vortec v8, but of the fact that youre crafting it yourself.

Great progress!!! Mo pics please. Are you going with PSI for your harness?

Hi Wayne,

Have you figured out how to hook up the starter? I was tracing my starter wire in my harness and it splices into 2 other wires.

Thank you.

Nice killa build mate
should mow along when your done ,
exhuast manifold is looking great

update radiator

worked on the plumbing and radiator. Have PS parts on order. I'm using JIC fittings so I can make 6AN line for power steering. We have this nice black goodrich cloth covered braided stainless hose that's the beez kneez I'll be using. If you want some I'll cut it and make it to length. Good news is the hose ends are swivel and will have great fitment. I'm going to use Redline power steering fluid and no cooler as that has cured over heating problems for me in race cars. Well, no the getting hot, just that it takes more heat to boil over.

I'll do my best to really get the wiring documented.

That's cool, but what we are hoping you'll do is create a plug and play harness for these engines :grinpimp:

heh

first, the incidentals.
The radiator I got from summit, the brackets I fabbed I found laying on the floor at the shop as scrap. :-) Here's a pic of the top bracket. I'm just making a strap to hold the top of the radiator on both sides. Ahh that's done.

Now, after fabbing up the exhaust. DUH. I think I'm completely re doing it when I get it back to the shop. So here's the question. The stock exhaust goes outside the frame rails, and there is room on both sides, so why not go outside the frame rails and then back in like the factory does. If you look you'll see a hump on both sides of the body where you could sneak both sides back inside the frame rails.
In frame rails or out? What do you think?

Another topic. Since I have the tools I thought I'd elaborate on the oil pan situation. Remember, I have stock ride height. The steering toe bar hits the truck pan and the pinion flange hits the oil level sending unit. I'm sad to say that I won't be modifying this oil pan as GM parts are too cheap to compromise time vs. cost. I'm buying the swap pan and pickup, and dipstick tube for under 300 bucks. I don't want to keep spending, but I'm in this far. :) the blue line is where the bar would hit if the suspension was compressed all the way. I was going to knock off the front of the pan and call it a day, but as you can see the pick up tube would have to be modified as well. By the time I get done with the amount of time I would have in it, would be the same as buying the right one. I mean, If I'm making my own oil pan it's going to be badass and not be some hack job. If someone wants a badass oil pan I can make them one too, but they ain't cheap.

Fyi.. the camaro pan I used does not have an oil level sensor. That is freaking tight between the 3rd member and the pan.

Oh come on ....
