Gents and ladies, this is my baby...the next pictures I'll be posting will be it's beginning stages of a full frame off resto. Picked her up for what I hope is a steal and hopefully will be able to out her back to 100% fully restored within the next few months. Will also be changing the color to the Toyota Sky Blue, keeping the hardtop. All will be back to it's manufacturer standard. Modifications will be disc brake upgrade, OEM Toyota power steering kit and the jump seats will be converted to a forward facing seat.

What do you guys think? A good piece for resto?

interesting shackles on the rig.

Congratulations on the purchase. Looking forward to all the pics of your progress so keep em coming!

Also love the homemade whitewalls!

All kidding aside, looks like a good build.

I think 30X9.50R15s look good on an FJ40, a little taller than stock.
Well, the original size is 7.50-16 (32”) in later 40-serie diesel powered versions. So 30”s are small.

Looks like a fairly typical South American truck. Depends on what your definition of "resto" is. But it looks like you could have the basis for a reasonably solid driver (once you replace those scary shackles).

There are so many differences between it and USA Cruisers.

You have a split-bench seat. The air cleaner is on the driver's side, but it is a 2F. What year is it? What country of origin?

Looks like a good place to start.

I chuckled when you said you'd have it fully restored in a couple of months. But you're doing a good job ripping into it.

Old saying about time, tools and talent and it will all depend what you have under that paint and the hidden issues that everyone ends up finding. If it ain't body, it's mechanical or things that need replaced. I don't know how many times during a restoration I told myself, damn, I wasn't expecting that. My rule of thumb is it always takes twice as long as planned and twice the money you expected to spend.

I have seen some dudes properly kill a restoration but they had some great shop bros. No Debbie Downer here, I looking forward to seeing you restore this rig. I'm going to be right behind you and have never restored a 40. Messed with muscle cars and trucks and have been lucky enough to have a great mentor keeping me from going astray. Boy, I'm going to sound like a real greenhorn when I start asking stupid questions in a couple months.

Best of luck.

Thank you. I'm estimating around December time frame. I'm in no rush so I suppose we will see. I'll post here all the progress.
