It is easy to say that it causes lots of problems, but how many trips to the hospital, and or morgue has it saved in thirty-plus years?
What would you suggest is done to distinguish the difference between a back yard welder, and a pro for inspection purposes at this, or any event?
By the same token, this is the only event I'm aware of with this in their tech inspection form...how is it all these other events don't require it?
Additionally, the same rules don't apply to steering arms, pitman arms, suspension mount points, roll cages, seat belt tabs, and a pile of other items....all of those are safety items which in certain circumstances could result in injury.
As you noted, there is no consistency in the rule.
The problem is, you can't pass laws that participants must have common sense...we both know the booty-fab projects running around the MidWest now! lol
