And I just can't get enough... My new 76 FJ40...

2 hours after laying the clear, its flowing out nicely. In 18 hours it should be sweet!

I have decided that tonights work will be spraying in the Bedliner. I will be applying it to most of the interior, and also the firewall. Going to try and cut down on the noise and vibrations as much as possible.

That way the clearcoat will have an additional 24 hours to settle in as it is getting cold around here.

One thing I noticed with the cooler weather is the clear really has time to flow out nicely...

I'm having trouble keeping up - what happened to that last 653/daily driver 40 (I did it again...) you were working on? What is this #3 - #4?

I know, I know... :D

I just cant keep one around.

I do have a "master plan" though. As I build these guys, and sell them, I am building my skills, as well as some $$$. (hard to believe I know) My ultimate goal is to buy and keep one which will be heavily modified, and be my daily driver for life.

Then I will keep buying and selling them for the fun of it.

This is indeed my 4th FJ40. With the 69 still in the garage. It's up next to be finished, as its half way done as of now.

Bedliner Stage One is in!

Spent a couple hours on the cruiser tonight.

I decided along time ago after looking at one of Shanes restos (81 FJ40) up in Portland that I would use the same bedliner he did. Its called Raptor and it's made by U-POL. It looked fantastic, and was very smooth to the touch with a great texture.

I bought two kits. One black for the underneath, and one tintable for the inner tub and firewall.

I already laid on the underside and it went great. Just as advertised.

Prep included getting all the holes filled in. I have heard many ways to do this, and I decided to be lazy and just take some blue tape and ball it up, then stick it in the hole. It worked great.

I also sanded down anywhere there was some clearcoat overspray. Then taped it up with Green Tape. Then used another tape job with paper.

Mixing the bedliner is super easy. You just add the hardner, then add the paint without thinner. You shake it up for 2 minutes and your ready to shoot.
Here's the paint I used. (base clear system)

Then you just point and pull the trigger. Its got a bit of a splatter so you just have to watch out where your pointing it. Man this stuff is NICE! And sooo easy!

That's it for now. Will be doing the front firewall tomorrow eve..

Got the rest of the Liner sprayed, all nicely on the firewall (both sides) and up-in under the dash area as well.

Next order of business is pedal assembly which is blasted, will need to prep and paint, soda blast the brake light switch, install the unit, then hook up the brake booster. Hope I can get that done by tomorrow eve.

Pedal assembly installed, all electrics have been soda blasted. Wire harness installed (kinda) need to figure out routing with this SBC 283. Alternator on drivers side. Others issues like trying to figure out what to delete from the harness. (what isn't needed) etc etc...

Overall I'm happy with the progress.

Went through the entire harness and unwrapped it. Routed the alternator wires to the drivers side, and re-wrapped it. (good times)

The harness I bought through a MUD member is in very good nic. Just the rear needs attention.

Got a couple buddies to show up and............... put the tub back onto the chassis! :bounce:

Its getting close.... pics later today.

^^^ love the raptor lining

did you find 4 liters was enough for the inside and 4 was enough for the bottom? when i did mine I almost wished that I had two more bottles for each side - i'm wondering now if the pressure i had it set at had anything to do with it

also those guns are supposed to make a put put put type shooting motion right? thats what mine did - i just assumed that was normal!

can't wait to see the rest of this build - you're livin the dream right now!

Couple more things done...

Got the brake booster cleaned, prepped, painted and installed, along with the master cyl.

Also got all of the new Poly Body mounts installed.

Todays jobs include installing the clutch master and throttle assembly.

Where is the update???

Lets see it. I am laid up on the couch non-weight bearing after having foot surgery. I can't work on my 40, so I need to live vicariously through you.

I have been slackin on the updates sorry guys...

Big update is that it RUNS!!! Fired it up and pulled it in and out of the garage.

So, that means I have restored and installed the drivers seat, seat mounts, clutch master, gas pedal and throttle linkage, alternator, rerouted the water lines for temporary use, all electrical is working (thats hooked up)minus the rear harness, installed the gas tank, dash is almost done. Restored the guage cluster down to repainting the needles...

This weekend will be installing a HEI dizzy, and going to "try" and get the rest of the panels into paint. The weather has just been suck around here lately.

Also got some time on rust (holes) repair on the hard top side panels.

I'll try to not be lazy and get some pics up tonight...

Some pics

Here are some pics of a couple things I have done.

On another note, I just bought ANOTHER FJ40 from AtomicGroove here on MUD. It's a 78 and I cant wait to get it. It will be a driver until this one is done.
