Put a bunch of assembly lube on the gears, spun the engine both directions twice to coat them good stopping back on tdc

Then when I went to install the cover noticed the dowels are missing

I wish we could have vapor honed the IP to make it as clean as the rest of the engine.

Had to stop last night because the little was asleep and I needed to hammer the crank pulley home.
Nose of the pulley got greased up before install.

Galen had asked me how I know the pump is in time so figured I'd post this to the thread. When I pull these apart I remove the IP from the timing cover without removing the auto timer, this way the steel plate the IP adjusts on doesn't have to come off therefore, the timing doesn't change. The engine is simply put at tdc during disassembly and at reassembly so all is needed is for the teeth to be lined up.

The black piece between the timing cover and the IP is the plate I'm referring to.

The IP timing adjustment is done here by loosening the four nuts and rotating the IP. In this photo you can actually see where it was marked at the factory. These nuts aren't loosened during the rebuild so timing is maintained.

Gluing the pan on, I like to have everything organized and ready to go so the pan bolts can be torqued before the sealant between the stiffening plate and block sets. Sealant, pickup and feed, pan. Gotta move quick.
