Am I ridiculous for preferring a Land Cruiser over a LX470?

What I am saying is nobody knows what a LX470 is when you say the name. I did not imply at all that a Landcruiser has special powers. Did you even read my post? I am saying the name Landcruiser is well known, LX470 not so much
Maybe I read too much into it. The usual quip from LC owners who have run out of ways to claim superiority is "yeah, but it's not a Land Cruiser!" Here in NA, I think the LX name is about as recognizable as any other Lexus, but in the rest of the world, you're right, not well known. But if you showed them a picture, they'd recognize it as a Land Cruiser with a strange emblem.

LX470 come with halogen projector low beams. It's an easy swap to go to HID.

Not sure what year LX you have but the headlights in my 06 suck BIG time. I convert to aftermarket eagle eye getting some improvement but still very lacking IMO.

In comparison my 99 LC with and without the HID conversion were MUCH better.

I like how this thread turned into an LX love-fest. Unless you REALLY hate the LX front-end, who gives a s***.

For those who think the Lexus is pompous, well, it ain't. The youngest 100 series is a decade old, and for people that aren't us, it's just an old-ass truck. Far from pompous.

You are right with that, in the UK where the Range Rover is king and newer is better, all I have is a Old Ass truck according to everyone I know, only farmers give me compliments. But I like it and that is all I care about.

Well this question really hits home as I have been dealing with this for many months now. Many. Many. Months...

Why did I want an LC? Because of the name.
After realizing that the LX is considerably cheaper in Southern California, a clean/low mileage LX (for reasons already mentioned = family car) is much more common than an ok LC, and after understanding that it is the exact same as an LC I finally decided on an LX. I wouldn't let the front end deter you from looking at Lexus. I mean, once it's lifted and with all the accessories you are more than likely to throw on there, it's still a Lexus but a bad a$$ Lexus.

My only regret is the AHC. I don't want it and it takes a lot (time+money) to remove correctly.

I love my LX but when I decided to get a 2nd 100 for daily driving I knew it was going to be a Land Cruiser. I wanted people to know I drive a Land Cruiser. I love cruisers, and I love to talk about them. I love conversations at gas stations and parking lots about Land Cruisers. I invest a lot of time in my cruisers and I'm proud of that. I'm proud that I can confidently drive a 17 year old vehicle from South Georgia to Utah and not think twice about it. I'm proud that I paid 1/5 of what most of the guys I know paid for their trucks. I'm proud to be part of the community.

All of that being said I didn't get the opportunity to talk much about the LX. I would lose most people when I started talking about it being a Land Cruiser. So this time I made sure I got a Cruiser. Its amazing that I've had it only two weeks and have already had 2 different people at 2 different gas stations come up and start asking me about it. About it being a Land Cruiser. In the years I've had the LX that NEVER happened, even lifted on 34s.

So no, I don't think its crazy at all:)

Godd amn, that is a brutally honest answer. Wish others in this forum were as honest with themselves as you were with us.

And to come full circle. All the praise lavished on the LX, certainly applies to the LC as well. They are sister platforms with far more similarities than differences.

Well said, the LX is way stealthier, most have not seen or will never see any offroad action, therefore if you turn up with an LX at any 4x4 group they can't believe that you're crazy enough to throw your rig into the dirt...specially if it looks relatively stock.

Here in Taiwan, the LX is the seen as a luxury SUV no idea of the capabilities that it has got.

The guys at Lexus cant believe when they see mine and ask me if I really did go offroad....mine is the only dirty one they have ever seen!
Since there is no LC's available here Taiwan it was the obvious choice to make IMHO

Anyway LC or LX I'm glad to be part of this great community...

Yup! I think it's hysterical to roll up to the Lexus dealership in my apocalypse-ready LX covered in dirt. Every other Lexus in there is clean. The mechanics all come to my truck to ask about it. I find that kind of fun. They don't see a rig like mine often, if ever. A couple weeks ago, I took my LX into the dealership to pick up some parts I had ordered. Parked next to an LFA in the service carport. The owner asked me a bunch of questions about my LX and seemed genuinely fascinated by an LX that can go way, way, WAY off the beaten path. Best part, three techs were more focused on my LX than the LFA as they see more LFAs than LXs like mine ;)

Please post a picture of your LX so we can see what more interesting than a supercar with a US production of only 179.

Coming into this community with a fresh perspective, I can't even believe that this whole beef is a debate or conflict.

Simply amazing what people will gripe about. I'm planning to put a LX steering wheel in my LC if it works out. Please flame me.

As long as you just sit there with the stereo off I can see how you could think you were in a real Lexus:D

Ohhhhh, The LX's keep the wafflebutts happy. I get it now. Makes perfect sense!

I wouldn't mind a little more sound deadening in my LC for longer road trips, but then again, that's what my AMG is for, so...

Side note, totally gonna order a set of those mudflap plate things, just as soon as I find out if I have enough non-rusty metal left to attach them properly.

Ha! Mine is nothing special compared to others on this board. But, at the Lexus dealer here, they only ever see the mall-cruiser variants. There are 4 LFAs in Austin and 2 more were here this past weekend at COTA for the F1 weekend (we usually have 2-3 in a private garage here so their owners can fly in and run them on COTA). While impressive and certainly rare, an LX fixed up like an LC is more so around here. Keep in mind, I see tons of kitted out LCs here in Austin. I have only ever seen 1 LX that was setup like most of the LCs and it was just 34" tires and a baja rack.

If I take my LX to the Toyota dealer, it's nothing special...no one bats an eye.
