I know we have electrical geniuses in our group, but does is anyone really good with alarm systems (or recommend someone/somewhere)?

I have a viper alarm on my LC, and I "think" it's spliced into my factory alarm. I have good battery, spark, starter, but sometimes it will not turnover. . Just click. I'm thinking the factory alarm is messing with the ignition. Someone on MUD was talking about the kill switch, but even if I was to mess with it, I'd probably mess up the aftermarket alarm.

Tell him i gave you his number Rafael

Edit: sorry i dont know where you are. He is in Clt

We had a guy bring a new to him, ham fisted, diesel swap 80 on the trails last month. Said it didn’t always start and he suspected the alarm because the parking lights were constantly flashing. Sure enough, he turned it off in the middle of a trail to watch somebody else and couldn’t get it started again. Dual batteries, multiple giant battery cables not hooked up, I wanna say they even all black color - a PO mess. We spent an hour testing and trying things then someone had the idea to put him in neutral and roll backward a foot or two. Started right up after that.

Is there a factory alarm?

Ive removed a few of the aftermarket ones in the past. Not that hard.

Edit: that wasn't super helpful. Usually there is an alarm computer somewhere then a few wires going to different places. Usually the ignition switch wiring is spliced into.

Find the alarm computer, trace where the wires go, and rip it all out, repairing spliced factory wiring as you go.

But I want to keep the aftermarket alarm. I just dont want to two alarms interfering with each other.

I don't think there is a factory alarm. If there was, it would be listed in the fsm, or ewd. If you have two aftermarket alarms, at least one would need to be removed to prevent interference.

Factory security system is what I mean. With the box under the driver's seat.

My vote is to just remove all of it and patch the wiring for now. That way you're up and running and can spend time at your leisure in the future reinstalling whichever you prefer, knowing that you're not being rushed on the voodoo smoke wires.

Mine had the factory security system. Pitiful/useless range but it would unlock the doors. It's out and my buddy and I put in a viper years ago. Just got a new remote but it's still chugging along.

Next meeting we can compare wiring. I don't remember if I hooked up the starter kill ( I think I skipped it to avoid possible issues) but like Johnny said tracing that wire to where it interrupts the ignition shouldn't be hard. Splice that back together and it can't cause that problem again.
This thread was interesting...

But, normally if it clicks sometimes and won't crank that sounds more like starter solenoid to me.

Thanks. For sure not the starter. I changed it two weeks ago (thinking it was the starter). Now it light out during the meets. We can take a look then.
