Good luck .. I have one . That I keep for a spare for my 8x. 8x guys will give their right nut for them . Im always looking for them. I have installed reg hubs on 77s before more times that I can count. 2 ways Cheapest it to rework the Birf I have cut new grooves in for the clip with a steady hand and cut off wheel. then trimmed the end. Now days I use the lathe. Find a set of mini truck birfs and switch them. . I have a good set of used reg hubs. $120 for the pair. Sadly all my mini birfs aren't for sale. I use them for disk brake conversations. Mini stuff is getting hard to find.

What is the difference in length on the mini truck birfs? I may have a set.

Well, I am rebuilding the axle before I install it in the cruiser and was planning on swapping the Birfields. So I could easily swap to mini trucks. LMK
Yes Sir.. Takes about 10 mins and new spring clips ( clips 97 cents each from your dealer). and a pipe to switch them out!! I think Kurt at cruiser outfitters sells them new. I know trail gear does. but I prefer oem. We just shot a tech tip of me doing this birf change. but it may take a few months to be released. super easy Job . If you get there before shoot me a pm Ill send you the clip of the process...

I broke a set o those 1st trip out they are china made repops. Cost my 2 birfs and tore up my housing pretty bad.
Just to be sure, are you saying those are not genuine ASCO hubs? They are counterfeits?

Aisin still sells hubs with their name on them prominently. ASCO is/was the Aisin Seiki Company. The ASCO name was on the OE long-body hubs; the ASCO name appears in the City Racer photos and the hubs are described as reproductions.

In the past two years the market has been flooded with Chinese copies of Aisin hubs that omit either name, and are likely not made with either the same materials or precision. The name is likely omitted on these Chinese copycats due to enforcement by Aisin. I would think Aisin would do the same for any copycats not made by them with the ASCO name as well.

The question to be asked is: are the new ASCO long-body hubs being made by the Aisin company using the same materials and construction as the originals, or are they made otherwise? A factory in China COULD make the correct product, as Apple has demonstrated quality control is possible under their auspices and oversight.

Perhaps Roger will comment here.

From what I experienced. I would say no. I broke the housing not even near a bolt or even a pressure point 1st run. Took me a few yrs to fins REAL Aisin long hubs. I beat them like they owe me money not a problem. The metal in the break was very pourse. like most cheap castings are. I would run an AVN before what Citey racer offers as a long hub. and for the record most of the stuff we buy from them is pretty spot on

no experience with those, but for peace of mind i wouldn’t bother with a chinese reproduction hub, why take the risk?

The reputation of the Aisin hubs as reliable and sturdy is well known. If they have transferred construction to Chinese companies, and not provided the oversight to ensure the products continue to be minimally as reliable and sturdy, then they will rapidly lose their reputation.

Of course, nothing is indestructible, and occasional items slip past quality control. Any close-up photos of your exploded hub? Did you contact City Racer for further info or replacement?

@Racer65

I’m now in process of finding Aisin long body hubs. Will likely swap birf’s to eliminate need for these as the City Racer hubs do not appear to be of similar quality as OEM.

I see this thread was not answered by CR.

@cruiseroutfit could likely solve any and all hub issues you have, or are the long bodies NLA from any source?

Wondering if enough people request a quality aftermarket long body free wheel hub cruiseroutfitters might be able to have them reproduced??
