Too far north. Too far east.
I installed FJ60 power steering on my FJ40 and noticed just moving it around the driveway that the steering is rather anemic. I have a $100 certificate at AGR (thanks Rising Sun/CM09) and was looking at the AGR Super Pump as an option to replace the OEM. I realize I would either need to purchase a mount (MAF, AA, etc), make a mount, or modify my FJ60 mount as was described in a post I found in MudTech.

Any opinions on the pump or installation? What would I use for a pulley? Could I use my existing high pressure hose and just flare on the SAE fitting that would mate to the pump?

I do not believe the FJ60 gear box can handle the higher pressure of a Super pump. You may want to do some searching in the FJ60 forum.

10-4. I did see a Saginaw pump moving a FJ60 gear box (with rock ram) this last weekend at CM and the owner didn't mention any issues.

Did you bleed the heck out of it. It often takes 50-60 L2R turns to get all of the air out of the system. Most PS systems are rather sluggish at first, until all of the air is out.

Two thoughts:
(1) I believe I have been told by AGR that if you don't have both, a 1500 psi pump AND 1500 psi gear box, you don't have 1500 lb. steering---they are a matching set. The ARG pump would try to blow the guts out of your non-AGR gear box.
(2) You may simply be running a pitman arm that is too short for your gear box, consequently your steering is under-reacting!!! A slightly longer pitman arm would quicken-up the steering???

I've been running an AGR Super Pump in both my '78 FJ40 and my turbo diesel Tahoe. The pumps are great. The one in my 40 has been there for, gosh, at least 7 years with absolutely no problems. More to the point, this pump is driving an off the shelf mini gear box. There has never been any leak of any kind. I give them two thumbs up.

That's great to know. Do you recall what you used for a pulley?
