Hey guys. I want to get the max battery size for the stock battery tray. 2002 LX470. My stock in there now is interstate 24F 700cca.

Went to Batteries Plus and they couldn't figure out the upgrade size.
In your experience, what's the largest dual purpose battery you have run with?

I'm looking at X2 and Odyssey. Looking for stock battery tray fitment.
In the future I'm running lights winch and maybe a fridge etc.
Love to hear your thoughts.
Thx!

A group 24F fits, with room to spare.

A group 27F fits, and fully fills the tray/space. (My personal preference)

A group 31 can kind of be forced to fit, or a Slee kit to fit a group 31 can be purchased.

Make sure to buy the X2 online and pickup at store. that saves you 10%, which is real money on a battery this expensive. Have had mine for around 2 years and have had zero problems, which is a welcome change from the Optima and interstates I had in before .

for me I used a Group 49 (NOT an AGM battery = SealedLeadAcid) and made some plywood blocks (with a shot of black spray paint) to take up space on the stock battery hold down. Rated CCA is 900. I am also holding out for Lithium prices coming down substantially some time in the future. Love the BattleBorn units (Lithium), but can't stomach the price at this time.
Credit to: @geanes I had no idea a Group 49 would fit!

Good idea!. Thanks for the tip. I'm road tripping to Denver next week.. Are the Nat'l Parks and monuments open for camping out that way?

Ahh I see, that's an easy fix. Whats the advantage of this battery/method over a 27 or 24 group?

For me the RC rating is all that matters. Group 31 is way out in front, as I recall. The Slee tray is top notch, if you need any extra convincing to consider it.

I'd get the battery you want and upgrade the tray if needed. A good battery of any variety isn't cheap, but it's a great investment. Do it once, do it right, ya know?

I'd you go agm, have an agm charger on your shopping list and/or do the alt sending diode mod to make sure that beast actually gets the charge it needs.

Fwiw, my group 31 agm die hard platinum is on year... 8 (I think) and still going strong. It's been a hell of a battery.

sorry, should have noted the biggest thing I notice is during cranking (no hesitation like the 27 I had in it) and although Reserve Capacity states 150...it seems like more. I do keep a Noco GB40 as a Jump Pack...just in case (only running one battery). @geanes may have some feedback for his experience(s).

Heey , I bought your key mod!

Hey I ordered a GB40 as well, will it charge a AGM battery properly?

Higher cranking amps and a bigger reserve.

My reserve capacity is 185 on mine and it's been rock solid for nearly 3 years of constant use. My rig is parked outside all the time here in Central TX, so it's bombarded by heat for the majority of the year (102 here today). I recently ran the battery down to 10.9 volts (alternator failed and drove on battery only for 30 miles). Hooked up my NOCO charger at home and battery went right back up to it's "normal" 13.8 volts. Put in a new alternator and zero issues since. It can easily run my fridge for an entire day. I have the fridge cutoff set to medium and I put up a solar screen on the rear quarter window to mitigate direct sunlight as much as possible. I carry a NOCO GB40 jumper with me, but have never had to use it on my own vehicle. Thing that is most impressive is that I barely turn the key and the engine kicks on immediately. It does this even in temps down in the teens. One turn of the key and fires right up. The 27f that was in previously usually took at least 2-3 turns in super cold weather to fire up. Additionally, it seemed like I had to turn the key and hold it for a second before letting go or the truck wouldn't start.

What do you guys think of this^

GREAT battery. Solid deep cycle option. That would be my choice if I wanted AGM. More than 2x the cost of my Series49. LOTS of people here run those and absolutely love them. Much more reliable than the last few years of yellow/red top optimas (seems they have lost some favor due to production changes).

My understanding is that the Noco GB40 is for jump starting only, "B" = boost for starting. Noco does make charge only units (G1100), but I already had a stand-alone charger. It's a wall mount Battery Tender 3A unit that I keep the LX on during the week or when not being driven. Many of the newer chargers have the ability to detect and properly charge multiple battery types/chemistry.

Should I pull the trigger on this? It's $400

Have 2 of these in our 3 vehicles, (haven't had time to install a third, and the current lead acid is working fine) and have been very happy with them. During the coronapocalypse, with the vehicles sitting for 3 months, we've had to break out the DHP charger a few times to keep them topped off.

Are you running fridge or other high demand 12v equipment? If its just starting and you want the reliability of AGM- there are lower cost options that will get the job done.
