Batteries Plus X2 Power 27F. Rebranded Northstar AGM battery. Not cheap. I paid $275 after sales tax, but it's got similar specs to the Diehard Platinum 31M, but with a full 5 year replacement warranty.

Nice @Hayes - I was looking at this same exact battery a couple weeks ago at the Batteries Plus location on Redwood while shopping for a heart rate monitor battery replacement.

Do you happen to know the reserve capacity on the X2 Power 27F? Looks like it's got 930 CCA but the site doesn't list the reserve capacity.

The DHP 31M has 1150 CCA and 205 minutes reserve capacity.

Also, based on the image above it looks like the X2 Power fits in the stock location (?) whereas the DHP 31M requires Slee's tray.

The weight of the X2 at 69 lbs. is comparable to the DHP's 75 lbs.

Looks like it could be a nice alternative to the DHP though with that warranty. Nice find.

Nice I may go this route, was going to look for a smaller diehard the 35 I think but this looks good. Would the local interstate battery store have these?

Thank you for this timely post! My son's battery died during our latest "cold snap" (a week after your post). At least it was kind enough to die in our driveway. I like the Odyssey batteries, but they seem darn near impossible to find locally. The Die Hard Platinum is great, and they are easy to find, but they don't offer it in the 24F or 27F sizes. While their group 35 will work (and I have one in my LX), it's kind of a sloppy fit in the tray. Their 31M will fit with Christo's kit, but then I would have to order and wait for the kit to arrive before I could've replaced the battery and got my son's car back up and running. I found a local Batteries Plus that had the "X2 Power 27F" in stock and it worked just fine. My only 2 minor complaints are 1) it is a heavy SOB 2) the handle is located in such a way, that the top bracket is not a perfect fit. Overall I am very happy with the purchase, and would've never thought to check Batteries Plus before your post. Thanks again!

Just went through the battery/alternator song and dance, ended up with new alternator and the Batteries Plus X2 Power 27F.

fyi - there is a 10% discount from the website www.batteriesplus.com if you buy online and pickup in store, also a $30 mail in rebate until Jan 31.

Is the consensus to run a normal battery for the starting battery, and an AGM as a secondary for aux equipment? I read a few threads on here where some say a deep cycle battery doesn't get enough voltage from the alternator to charge properly as a starting battery.

dunno, I would think it would get charged just fine?

Interestingly, I was watching the voltage on my scangauge while driving, and it never got above 14.1. Pretty sure with old battery/alternator I would see up to 14.5ish. While checking connections, I noticed on the battery it says "charge voltage limited to 14.1 volts", so guess I'm fine.

The description for the X2Power says "Pure lead technology delivers the performance of 2 batteries in 1: starting and deep cycle" - so hopefully best of both worlds? Will have to wait for summer when the fridge is hooked up to see how it does as a deep cycle.

My dual battery solution consists of the X2Power and a microstart in the glove box :)

The issues people are having are typically related to the specific charging requirements of the Odyssey/Sears Die Hard Platinum group 31M battery. Other AGM batteries seem to work just fine.

Great to know, thanks for the info

Got a few battery questions that perhaps someone here could help. I've found there are a lot of smart and knowledgeable people here.

1. I have had an Odyssey PC1700 in my '01LC since 2007. I am very happy with it as it still starts up on first crank every time with perhaps a fraction of a second or so longer cranking than when new. I hope it will last at least 10 years total although the expectation was 7 years when I bought it. Is 10 years reasonable?

2. When the time comes, will the Odyssey die suddenly like most lead acid batteries or will it slowly taper off (e.g. takes longer cranks before starting)?

3. The other day, I was waiting in the car with engine off doing some work. After taking the key out, I forgot to open and close the door to turn off the head lights and ended up not having enough juice left to start engine. That has led me to start researching for a battery replacement before it fails. I love the service life of the Odyssey and want to replace with equivalent of better. I think I got the PC1700 off Ebay for less than $200 in 2007. A quick check now puts it closer to $300, ouch! A few years back, I read that sears, perhaps just speculation, was selling re-branded Odyssey batteries as Die Hard Platinum for less money. Is there a re-branded PC1700 on the market?

4. Using the PC1700 as the standard, which other brand/model of batteries on the market will provide similar or better longevity and still fit in 100-series LC bay? Longevity is key for me.

5. What Odyssey batteries (i.e. model numbers) are folks in this community putting in the 100-series in these days?

Could someone please expand on this?
I need a new battery for the 100 (LX) and was leaning towards Christo's tray and a DHP 31M.
Thanks!

It was my understanding that Sears had dropped the DHP line. You may want to verify availability of the DHP 31M or an appropriate replacement before you commit to this.
