bar pads

Haven't had much time to work on them but hoping I can get to them this week. I need to get the maetal clips for the insert designed so our vendor can get those going. (That is what we'll be waiting on.) I would like to have those and the lower dash pads done about the same time. Based on feedback I've received I believe I will go with a threaded bolt pattern on lower dash pads vs. The pin clips. Keep rattling those chains.

I haven't posted anything for awhile so I thought I would slap something up here!

Will utilize approximately 6 mm studs protruding from lower dash pads with a nylon lock nut. (I really can't remember whether it was a 5, 6, or 7 mm bolt fits nicely in the holes for the pin clips when the clip is removed.) If I can get the tool insert locators the way I want I will probably go with stainless hardware....we'll see on that one. I may go slightly smaller as Toyota wasing using cnc lasers to cut these dashes out and I've noticed a little discrepency with the hole diameter and locations/distances. (Dies wear tooling needs reworked after so many punches etc.) It is not much but will be magnified when I put an insert that now has a z axis vs the x and y. The clips help to accomodate and make it more forgiving.

I believe I have the chemistry lined out to what I think would be the original durometor of the material for the dash pads and roll bar pads. Never saw one new.....only ones that have been sitting in the sun for 30+ yrs! I gotta believe they were softer earlier on? Would love some feed back on that. If anyone remembers if they hardened up over the years or were they always that hard. Please let me know.

Utilizing same chemistry we use for agriculture and trailer applications. That was the easy part! Based on responses I can either harden or soften chemistry.

Molds are ready waiting on metal supplier to finish inserts. This is more of a favor they are doing for me so I have to be patient with them.

OH!!!! BY THE WAY, I haven't found any porosity in the tools so there will be no LOGO on the product!!! Bet that made some of you out there happier! LOL.

Thanks and I hope I get some input back on some of the above questions.

As long as you can make roll bar pads, we don't give a crap if you can spell or complete a sentence. Keep us posted on the progress. I'm ordering roll bar pads as soon as they are ready.

Does that apply to the dash pads also?

If that is the case I will buy one ASAP

Best,

T

I thought you were saying there was no logo on the lower pads and rollbar pads only, but if you also eliminated it from the upper dash pad, I am definitely interested. Clarification?

I think he meant just the lower dash pads will have no logo. I don't think he is going to make a whole new mold for the upper.

Longbow is right.

I apologize, I was being ornery earlier and didn't mean for any confusion or miscommunication. There is no logo in the roll bar bads or the lower dash pads.

There is no new dash pad tool the logo will stay in there. TOOOOOOO much $$$$ already invested for this project!

Just waiting on the steel guys.

Bah! you had me exicited :)

No worries then. I will just continue on my resoration without your product and will no longer follow your threads.

Don't need ornery responses.

I have had several requests for international shipping. I now have the web-site set up for shipping to Canada and Mexico. Had a request what it would cost to ship to Chile. $495 WOW!! OUCH!

I am having a little trouble with the Canadian post codes though, No dashes in the Code. Oh, no shipping to PO Boxes.

I am working with UPS to get discounted international rates so we can pass it on to the customers.

How do most of you guys receive items sent from USA to South America, Australia, New Zealand, Africa, etc. ?

Is DHL more prolific in Mexico, South / Central America ?

Using UPS to Canada would suck. They charge a brokerage fee which can be as high as $75 added to the shipping. Best way to ship to Canada is USPS. There is often no extra fee or only $5-10 handling fee.

For me if a vendor won't ship USPS I do not buy from them:censor:

Daryl,

I was not aware of the $75 additional charge and have not seen a brokerage fee but then again I've never shipped international. (We have had a lot of our products shipped throughout the world but the OEM does the shipping)

This morning I ran shipping time and cost (in my UPS account) to Calgary, Alberta. Costs came in at $31. Inside the quote they break down the charges, I didn't see a brokerage fee. I also ran it through the fj40dash.com website and it showed $31.

I thought $31 was pretty reasonable. This was prior to me trying to get reduced rates for international shipping. Hopefully it will be reduced even more but won't know for a couple of more days on that.
