Does anyone still sell an ACSD delete kit? Looking for one for a '97 HDJ81 1HDFT with auto trans. Someone listed Denso #096218-0270 as an official PN. which I cannot find anywhere. I know RaddCruisers used to make a kit, which is now discontinued. If anyone can sell me one, please DM me. Located in Los Angeles, CA, USA.
All the parts needed to delete the ACSD (Automatic Cold Start Device). This is a better quality o-ring than the Toyota equivalent. 22790-17170, 22612-56350, 2261256350, 14610-74312, 1461074312, 2460223001, 24602-23001

I believe this should work, but would recommend inquiring to make sure it fits the FT.

Posting this as a new thread to make it easier to search. My 1HDT has been clicking loudly from the area of the fuel pump when it is cold. When the engine is at normal operating temp, the clicking disappeared. Dana Adams told me his had the same problem and he disabled his Assist(?) Cold Start...

Thanks. The 1HD-T manual ACSD is still available, but I'm trying to convert my auto ACSD to manual and don't want to buy a whole new one if I can avoid it.

Yes, a few. Although I currently live practically on the equator, I plan to register the vehicle eventually in Europe.
- I like the idle up and timing advance function to smoothen the engine on a cold start. I'm also not one of those people that thinks it's funny to have a diesel vehicle shoot out smoke.
- In Europe there are strict emissions regulations, and even for older vehicles the removal of any original emissions-control equipment could be an issue (this is just a thought). But a really sharp eyed inspector would spot the blanking plate on the pump - they never came from factory with such a plate over the ACSD port. If I were to delete it, I would take a new housing with no machining on that port.
- I like things to be original.
- I think the risk of the ACSD failing is greatly over-blown. It seems to be a real thing on the JDM 1HD-T, but these things were fitted to pretty much every diesel Toyota in Europe (and Japan) for many years and I've never heard of one going on e.g. a Hilux. Like any part, they can fail, but I am not worried about it. I've opened a few injection pumps over the years and have never seen any significant wear to the timer advance lever.
I can see the arguments for taking it off if you live somewhere with a mild climate and/or lax/no emissions standards (like my current home), but those are my reasons. Each to their own.
In a warm climate, the unit really never has to work.
Now try -30 to -40C and it's a whole new thing.
I did have a JDM ACSD grenade on a trip. Others have had the same.
Lots of shavings.
Have installed a Webasto so really no need.
I still have the ACSD from my 1995 HD-FT with 5speed from Belarus available.
Looks to be in great shape if someone wants it.

Ah, I should mention that I should be getting my hands on a 15B-F ACSD which is an even better match for my 15B-T than the 1HD-T unit I think (though I have a 1HD-T idle-up bracket and actuator). Thanks again for your offer.
It makes sense that they fail more often on the 6 cylinder pumps. For every plunger stroke there is a build up and release in stress on the roller ring. When the ACSD is engaged (engine cold) the internal ACSD actuator arm (the black thing that breaks) is basically holding the roller ring assembly in place, and it does so by the tension in those large external springs on the ACSD. The 6 cylinder pump will stress cycle this arm 50 % more than a 4 cylinder pump (for the same engine speed). But I wonder also if it reaches some kind of more destrctive resonant frequency because it looks like they shear off rather than wear gradually away. The arms of the ACSDs that I have seen people take off either look pretty much like new, or in the failure cases have just sheared off. It could also just be that the 1HD-T ACSD design was poor - there are two different ACSDs on the manual 1HD-T, not sure if there were 1 or 2 on the autos. 1HD-FT is different again. Have we seen any 1HD-FT ACSDs fail?
Anyone has experience with very cold weather starting ability without the ACDS ?
My 1hfdt started last week at -29c (-20f) surprisingly well.
I'm worried that if someday the day comes where i may have to delete the acsd that my truck will no longuer start in very cold temp.
The oem 24V starter with intake heater and timing correction is simply amazing for cold starts !

If you are worried about the thing breaking, just replace the ACSD with a new one. It only 'needs' to be replaced if it breaks. And then you would have a bigger problem.

Yeah its not that expensive. I've spent much more on other irrelevant things.
I'm planning on a complete cooling system renewal next year and i might include it along.
Leaving emissions aside, to me what it comes down to is:
- Is it neccessary to have ACSD for engine warmup below certain temperatures (i.e. engine would stall without it)
- Is it beneficial to have ACSD for engine warmup below certain temperatures (i.e. smoother idle, less engine wear etc.)
I guess there's only one way to find out. If there are any issues, one could always put the ACSD (or better, a new one) back in.
Personally I'm not a fan of the device, especially if the purpose is purely for emissions, potentially even compromising how well the engine could be running otherwise. The FT cold starts so nicely jumping right into normal idle speed, then the ACSD kicks in and raises the idle for a long period while running seemingly rougher than it could without it.

I Start My truck in cold weather and i like having idling and warming up.
I pull the hand throttle and start the truck. The hand throttle wants the pump to put more fuel but the ACSD i acting up on the idle behavior. As the truck warms up (I'm often working in the garage and i hear it), i can hear the engine tone and rpm changing and it is surprising how well the engine runs in cold weather because of this. You can hear the difference as it warms up.

The hand throttle helps it running in the very first seconds of very cold idle. Otherwise it may stall because the engine is inhaling very cold air. Also, it make a hell of a difference if you leave it idling before taking off. The collant gets warm quickly and thus gives you cabin heat.
