I was echoing your shock......:slap:

Thanks, Dan. I figured as much but sought to avoid a breach of the suggested Chat/Tech ratio.

Hello Foreal,

The bias plies i got have not been installed: i haven't found a shop that can sipe them and, without sipes, i don't want to find out what they're like to drive in rain, on ice, etc. As well, i got those for serious distances on tracks whenever i finally get going on my fantasy travels. So currently i have Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs on, in 315/75 R-16 size. And i'm quite happy with those so far.

Agreed, Foreal; i really wanted a set of the Michelin 900R16's, such as one sees on military vehicles. A few years ago i looked into the availability of those in Canada (i think i've mentioned this already somewhere on Mud, sorry for the repetition), and the only way to get those here is to get the army's cast-offs (they can be re-treaded). The ones i have are made by STA (Specialty Tire of America); not cheap, but hopefully solid as all hell. And i don't care about a hard ride.

I finally installed the protective steel box item i had made up. Its purpose is to keep the trailer electrical connector from getting damaged. I put four layers of POR15 on it. Looks just as i want it to, utilitarian. It was a bit of a squeeze between the spare carrier's latch tab and the two bolts to its left in the picture, but it provides me with piece of mind. Hanging it below the bumper made no sense to me.

I'm selling a few items. Figured i'd at least include the pictures here, however 'Classifieds' will have full details shortly; that thread is called 'Troopie Leftovers'. troopiebits 007.JPG

Hello Billy,
The only decision i've made is to go the DIY route. However that's a bit of a ways off at the moment; life is getting in the way, the lack of work in these parts (which means i've to watch my funds) is slowing me down significantly, plus three or four weeks of fiddling with the car in the cold had me decide i'll wait until it's a little warmer. Not entirely a bad thing as i am far from skilled at building stuff, so if i have limitless time to picture in my mind's eye what would be the right thing to do, i often find that to be very useful. I'll more than likely use wood as its combination of strength, ease of working and shaping, and appearance, are unbeatable. Which also means access to more elaborate wood-working tools than what i own will have to be found. Blablabla, huh.
That's as far as i've 'progressed' on that score.

Hey Nick, I can't help but notice the rust on your powder coated bumper. Is the rest of your 'new' barwork done in the 'troopy build thread' also starting to rust?

BILLY!!! You are truly a lousy bastard!
Oz is the country where i learned to love being able to wear nothing but shorts and go barefoot day and night, year round. Maybe a t-shirt would be added for formal occasions. I'll miss it forever.
Damien, yes it is. Check Crusher's comments on this thread. He highly recommended the powder-coating shop back in the day.
Until recently, i intended to rebuild my old 61's mechanicals to provide myself with some knowledge of such things; last week, however, i figured since i am unable to trust the work done on my car, i might as well dismantle it and rebuild that. It'll be quite some time before i can do that (the usual, funds), but that's the game plan. Every time i take a close, detailed look at things on my Troopie, i find room for improvement, if not a need for repair.

Bummer, that must hurt watching all that come out, if it even was sandblasted, they mustn't have primed it straight away. Again, I applaud you for holding your sanity together, that in itself requires some ability!

You're not wrong, Damien. I never sign in to Mud when i'm in a rage, and with reason. Mud only hears from me when i am able to hold my sanity together. I have found that, um, expressing oneself in such a state is not useful. This would be a major bitch thread otherwise!
