Hi 61mk+

I thought I would reply to our conversation here rather than fill Onur’s thread up with 2 men’s semantics.

I said “ I learnt in your thread I can buy pressed steel panels……..”

You said: I am, however, somewhat picky: those are not pressed steel panels replacing my side windows, they are custom-made 3/8" aluminium panels, with a powder-coat finish.

We must have got our wires crossed because I was not referring to your build, but ca18seans comment

Post #86 "I thought the Belgian ones were painted glass too, but the owner clarified they're bolt in metal replacements, possibly port installed?"

And because I’m not picky I won’t mention that that’s a very thick aluminium panel…............................1/8”? ;)

Some feedback on the glovebox:

When I was looking for information on a console I came across this that might be of interest. I am going to build mine too but I think it is too small for what I want (I’m thinking of a cooler/console) but might suit you?

It is made from a ammo can.

Well, right on, Billyfj7312ht, thanks!
Yes, 3/8" alu is fairly solid, huh! And no, i didn't realise you were thinking of Ca18sean's comment.
Now, to look up your link; and (once again) thanks for that, mister!

Ca18sean,
I read most, possibly all, of Radio Baobab's write-up maybe, say, four years ago. I found it fascinating to read, what an adventure. I did get close to the opinion that they were a little on the crazy side, it seemed to me they weren't as well prepared as they could have been (mind you, finding that out the hard way, adapting, and succeeding, makes for a hell of a good ride); plus, to use the Troopie as a sacrificial element i found bothersome: why destroy a perfectly fine car (in mind i've got the instance of when they were driving with the car nearly on its side, bouncing off the ruts/bumps whatever it was)? Maybe that just says i love Troopies. Whatever, that couple's resilience is admirable.

Had these steel bits made up to protect the trailer electrical connection on the rear bumper. The centre one is 3/8", and the four side plates are 1/4". Off to the welder tomorrow.

Same thing happened to me with him. My Troopy took over a year and he did all the work in the final week before I came to pick it up. Hey 61, I ended up with your side panels and front and rear consoles. I also ended up with that god awful pizza box hood. On my Troopy, when I complained he touted me "turning me in". He thought I imported it illegally. I got rid of that Troopy. Yea, he has globetrotter now. Let's see what he will have to say in a few months. I feel for you. I also got taken really really bad. Worst ever. I got to give it to him he got me good. Well that's three of us the green hzj40, you, and me if that makes you feel any better.

It pains me to see others have had a similarly less than stellar experience with "Crushers". While some might have gotten a good end result from him, I can say with all certainty that I did not. At the time I thought it was perhaps a fluke, but this thread unfortunately shows it was not.

I can not argue or debate as to Crusher's knowledge he has on a great many TLC topics, but my end result from his "services" left me very disappointed.

What I was unable to sort myself in my spare time and dime, I am lucky to have had Gary at MUDRAK go over my rig on and off in the past 7 years to address the long list of issues and fixes that came with the truck.
:worms:

I think to sum up the whole tone of my whole experience with Crushers was his one memorable reply to me regarding the non-functioning AC unit he installed.

"...yeah, I installed the AC, you didn't say you wanted it to work..." :meh:

After much work, replacement parts, and $$$ over 7+ years, I do try and enjoy it as much as I can, but overall, this was one helluva an expensive lesson and in hindsight I really wished I would have gone a different route and/or builder.

I often consider selling and/or trading it off.

She does look good in pictures though...

I do wish you and 61Mk+ the best of luck with your rigs.

OtterX,
Um, wow (a kind way of saying, HOLY POO!). Please, please, tell us you exaggerated in regards to his reply to you concerning the A/C...that is a downright fraudulent thing to say for a service/product provider. Incredible.
Very sorry to hear you found such severe disappointment. Thanks for posting. And best wishes for your 40. We will make our cars right, hey!

That was one of many quips to address my questions on issues I discovered on the truck after I took delivery. Most often, any attempts to discuss or reconcile these issues were met with comments about "customers being fussy". As a customer who threw a TON of savings into this build, paid in FULL whenever money was asked for, one would hope that one gets what they pay for.

I would say that drywall screws, loose motor mounts, exposed and dangerous screw ends, leaky storage bins, non-operational AC, bad wiring, a tranny that disintegrated after a few thousand miles, broken shift lever, cheap paint job, etc etc. I could go on, was NOT commensurate with what was paid.

But ah well, beating a dead horse at this point.

The concept of the build and its potential as presented by Crushers were the most exciting parts of this experience.

I truly hope you can get your rig sorted out to a point where it doesn't become a constant irritant.

Jesus, OtterX, i'm stunned by the similarities; i didn't expect that. And drywall screws (i'm assuming that's what you mean by sheetrock screws) used on a car?!? What the...????
Thanks for the good wishes, and the same to you. And once again, i appreciate your posting.

gday Nick, I just stumbled across your thread (haven't been much on computers the last few summer months) and read from front to end. Bottom line, I congratulate you on your attitude mate, highly commendable. subscribed.
