Put the 40 to work today. This is another thing I love about running long winch lines. I can run the cable around a tree and guide it down to exactly where I need it without worrying about it hitting the rig.

The 40 is running beautifully this summer.

Speaking of 1976...I bought a 1976 Piper Archer II today and flew it home from Southeastern Colorado. This thing has never seen rain and only has 1,800 hours on the airframe. Original paint. Immaculate. I love these machines.

Hoping to get the 40 out soon when the roads clear.

So when are you building a landing strip?

Looks like a ton of fun.

Nice find. I’m looking for something along those lines.

I’m shocked that I haven’t updated this thread in so long. Been a busy summer and fall.

Took the 40 for a spin today and checked on the back gate. Running really well, like always. I just love to kick the heater on in a 40 and cruise slowly through the woods this time of year.

The only thing left on my list for this rig is a new headliner. I keep procrastinating, as I'm just simply not interested in that type of work. Maybe a winter project.

looking back a bit in your thread. nice piper. my dad owned one similar back in the late 70s/early 80s. i have fond memories flying with him. he let me take the controls when i was three years old in my booster seat! i learned quickly how a plane goes up and then down then up then down for the next half hour!! 🤣. he sold it to go back to school but later as an adult he flew one his friend owned! i’ve gone for a few flights with him since again. so much fun!!

oh and nice 40 too!!

Wonderful story. Amazing how these things become such time capsules for our families. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks! That's really good stuff, flying with your Dad.

Now you've gotten me thinking about so many fond memories of flying with my Dad.

We flew a lot together over the years before he passed in 2021. Many great memories, starting when he kept his Cessna at the Littleton Airport here in Colorado in the late 70s. I fondly remember the smell of avgas and airplane interiors from my very early childhood.

He took this picture sometime around 1980. This airport closed in the early 80s and he moved over to what is now Centennial Airport before we moved back to Mississippi in the early/mid 80s.

My Grandfather and my brother at Centennial Airport with our ole 172, N9668V, early 1980s. Grandad wanted to be a pilot in the Air Corps in World War II (no Air Force back then) until he found out he was color blind, so ended up being a Captain in the Army in the Pacific Theater.

Many years later, flying in the Rockies (Dad and me).

Flying over in Mississippi in his last Cessna 172, N53498. Lost an engine in this one over Vicksburg, MS in 2008 and nearly landed on Interstate 20. Was able to glide her elsewhere and stay off of the evening news.

Somewhere along the line, I went with Pipers after flying Cessna 172s and 182s for a long time. My son and I just got back from Arkansas in fact. Great trip. It's neat to think that now I'm making these memories with him.

Ok, sorry for the sidebar. Back to cruisers.

I learn to fly in a J3 Cub. You were the starter. Gas gauge - cork float in the tank with a clothes hanger rod sticking out of the cap. I would wash and wax that plane for the same amount of time in the air. I remember getting slapped in the back of the head for trying aerobatics on my first go at the stick - "You have to learn to fly straight and level first" Sound advice.

That's awesome. Those are such cool airplanes.
