Is your color code 031 or 012? They're pretty similar, but 031 (which I think is what you've got) isn't Cygnus white. There's some controversy and uncertainty on the color relationship between the top and body of trucks that are 031 white. When I redid mine, the top appeared to be really close, if not the same as the body. I couldn't be certain though as the top color ages differently than the body. I chose to go with the same 031 because a two-tone-white vehicle didn't seem (to me) to be the most right choice. Some have gone 031 on the body and Cygnus on the top.

Anywho, I could never figure out that grayish-tanish color on that bezel. I painted mine silver, but I'd like to put it back the way it was, someday.

True cygnus is a really cream colored white.

I'm pretty sure most bodies are 031 white or 040 superwhite. I'm not 100% on year differences for those colors.

I think the manager of the Toyota Paint Division in the 70's didn't give a damn about the color white. "Let's do one big run of white, but we'll give it 3 different names and different color codes. It'll be funny."

White is also a biatch cause you can always tell when it is slightly wrong.

Interesting.

So I looked at the data plate on the PS fender and the color is 012.

Interesting. Is your bezel / top a slighty different color, or is it all the same?

And the mystery continues :). I think the 012 trucks would definitely have an 012 top. The white trucks from this era had a weirdly colored grey bezel.

Installed the new booster this morning and am back in business. Sure enough, the old booster had failed after sitting dormant for a while.

I only had time to drive a few highway miles, but the hubs feel cool to the touch and everything seems well-sorted. This is really my first drive since all new brakes/axle seals/bearings/tie rods/etc.

Ready for summer now.

Thanks, Carson. Same goes for you if you visit the Gulf Coast.

Spring is finally starting to show signs of life in the mountains. Some of the deeper snow is melting and the Aspens are starting to bud. Getting ready for my favorite time of year.

I've been putting some miles on the rig this week and everything is tight.

Pondering/procrastinating on a new headliner soon. Was bummed to just hear from my Toyota guy that they are NLA. Guess I'll start shopping aftermarket at some point.

Been a while since my last update. I spent a lot of time on building my log cabin this summer, so I didn’t get as much 40 driving in as I’d hoped. I did get a few hundred miles logged, but nothing too wild. Lots of local drives and BBQ runs.

Back to tech, my ole original radiator finally split at the upper seam. I swapped it out today and sanded/painted the shroud while I was in there. I also installed new OEM top and bottom hoses.

I’m really torn about doing the thermostat and water pump. I can tell that thermostat bolts are gonna do the typical breakoff maneuver based on how tight they are. The pump is Aisin though, so I have faith it will last a bit longer. I’ve got a NOS OEM one on the shelf when it finally goes. I’m going to keep soaking those bolts with PB Blaster and maybe hit ‘em with a torch eventually.

I haven't had the '76 out very much this winter. I've been tied up with work commitments, getting my log cabin done, and prepping the '77 for a recent trip down to big Bend.

Needles to say, she needed to stretch her legs, so I ate lunch and then went for a National Forest cruise down a few snow-covered trails.

I was able to find a high spot with cell service, so I managed to get some work done in the comfort of a 40 in the back woods. Good day.

Freakin' quintessential "livin' the dream" post right here. Love it.

Been driving this rig quite a bit lately. She’s running great.

I had the hood open this morning and went down a small rabbit trail…decided to see if CarbonX cleaner would help with the years of grime on the underside. Cleaned up pretty well.
