83 US spec FJ60. No blind nuts in the A pillar. Added S25-140 rivnuts spaced for FJ80 grab handles. The rivnuts are steel, 1/4-20 thread, 08” - .14” grip range. 1/4” x 3/4” socket head screws thread into the handles perfectly.

I used a big 2-handed rivnut tool. Required removing the steering wheel for clearance.

I like this @FJ60Seth . Does it feel sturdy enough to actually take some abuse? Look good.👍

Did this decades ago and just used #14 (if I recall) stainless sheet metal screws, with a very small pilot hole. They’ve had a lot (A LOT!) of use and no loosening issues whatsoever. Its such a useful place, I’m amazed they didn’t do it initially. I mounted mine a bit higher than the OP.

Yeah curious to see how these hold up over time. I have one of those rivnut setting tools and some rivnuts kicking around. I might give this a go if it's durable.

i did it a few years ago and have a short mother in law who hangs off it to get in and out. solid as the day i put it in. very worthwhile.

I did this back in '07 with aluminum steel rivetnuts, I think. I use the A-pillar drivers side everything time I get in. Still holding strong.

@FJ60Seth

Any reason you went with that 80-series Grip vs the 60-series Grip (which is still available) ?

The 80-series does seem to be more robust...

My 88 FJ62 had the nuts buried under the headliner. Easy install on mine.

I know I'm not @FJ60Seth , but I just saw this:

Only reason is I have a box of them. The 80 series ones are a little longer than the similar looking ones from a 60, but I was installing rivnuts anyway.
