Would somebody be so kind as to post a clear shot of their throttle cables? I need to make sure I have those correct

How's this?

Are these sufficient? If your concerned about cable tension mine have a reasonable amount of play and everything works great.

Great! Thanks!

While you guys are at it... I'm still looking for a good pic of the hoses off of the fuel pressure regulator?

Last request... I promise!

Make the next request quick I'm starting to get flack from the minions:rolleyes:

Perfect! Muchos nachos!

DetroitStyle, Nice write up! I'm in the same boat, but am going to park our 80 and swap out the engine for a diesel I had for my 40. Where in Detroit are you?

Just south of Ann Arbor actually

What are you going to do with your 1FZ?

SCORE! Found a misplaced hard line with a short rubber hose labelled "FPR to hose under intake"

That answered three of my four questions that I had left! (Open fitting on FPR, mystery hose under intake, and unused clean bolt hole inside the intake)...

It was in the box with the EGR stuff that I deleted

Great write-up...and now we're in those dramatic last moments before the reveal...the tension is thick in the air. Will it turnover? Will it start? Will it no longer overheat? Stay tuned for the dramatic conclusion...

Sadly... It's not going well. Turned the key and it barely ran. Tried a few more times, couldn't get it to do much more than idle super rough... won't pic up any revs at all. Double checked my plugs wires and now it just cranks and won't even turn over... *sigh*

Timing?

All electrical connections connected?

All ground wires bolted in place?

Fuel in tank?

I don't really know what I'm doing with timing...i set the cams with the dots matching as outlined in the FSM. I returned the distributor how I removed it. There was a witness mark where the bolt goes that I matched up. However, I've now pulled the distributor a few times and turned it as well. Probably F'ed myself?

Grounded? I have the one large ground strap from the firewall to the head? and then another thin black ground wire under the intake... I have that grounded to the intake where the power steering reservoir attaches?

Fuel in the tank. I smelled fuel the first few times, but am not smelling it now. However, I pulled the rubber line off the FPR and there was fuel in there. Not a ton... But it was bone dry this morning... So fuel moved through that at some point this morning

Same thing happened to be, I was 180degrees off, and needed to play with the timing. I pulled the dizzy, rotated the crank around and put dizzy back in,making sure to follow FSM, then it started and ran and I could adjust timing

Is it possible to have been 180 off even though the crank was lined up to the TDC mark on the block?

Also... am I screwed because I turned the distributor a few times?

Worried that I am going to have to pull the valve cover again? Re-degree the cams?

Is it possible to have been 180 off even though the crank was lined up to the TDC mark on the block?

Yes. Because it takes two turns of the crankshaft to rotate the camshaft once.

You'll need to confirm that your cam is tdc#1.

It's 50/50 chance. If you're not sure, remove the dizzy and then turn the engine one complete revolution and then re install the dizzy with all the marks lined up.

Never tried doing engine timing with the valve cover installed on an fzj but there may be timing marks visible, check the service manual on removing/replacing distributor if you're not sure.

Dadgummit this wrenching stuff is frustrating but you'll get it and have a bunch of knowledge, fine working rig and xtra beer money when it's all said and done:beer:
You said you did the EGR delete? Is that all hunkey dorry? If anything there is hooked up still it could cause issues. Keep with it, your gonna be drivin soon. The suspense is killin me:)
