I was disappointed to see this. This is a political move based on optics. It may be considered a win for the Iowa corn farmers, but a lose for the rest of us IMO. Ethanol as a fuel additive is not a real solution to any problem. It dilutes the fuel, reduces fuel mileage and creates a lot of fuel system problems. It artificially raises the value / price of corn. Feed costs go up and we all pay more for chicken, pork and beef as a result. I was hoping to see E10 and E15 go away. It appears that the opposite is what is happening.

They first used MTBE, Methytertiarybutylether in our gas, another fuel 'filler-additive ' similar to ethanol. After a few major spills and people having side effects, it was found to be not environmentally friendly so now no longer used.
Now we have ethanol, another filler, which reduces mileage, creates fuel system issues, and has an economic impact across the country. Iowa, and whoever produces the ethanol does not need to profit on the backs of everyone else...no more subsidy, and just gives us plain fuel which provides more efficient power.. More MPGS=fuel savings which is better for all, not a few.

I'm off my furl rant.

100% agree. E85 I can understand but simply spiking dino oil with some ethanol seems pointless to me and a net negative.

As for octane....buy the lowest octane you can for your cruiser. The 2F is a low compression low revving engine and will see little if any benefit from high octane fuel...except possibly at high altitude and under high load conditions or if you have a lot of carbon buildup.

The oil companies have us well trained in the psychology they sell at the pump. They tell us that the high octane fuel is cleaner or will clean our engines and make it sound as if 87 octane is the sludge at the bottom of the filler tank.

"This is the first president that's taken action," Shaw said. "It was a promise made and a promise kept."
"The important thing for us is to increase demand," he said.
So yes, people are happy, election happy, what people want they get during elections.
But we have stopped using it and believe me: I am cheap.
Sadly most politics and policy is about "the new emperors clothes":

Yeah the 91 ethanol free is $3.89 here and climbing.
Aaahhhhh, those were the days...

Just spent $4.60 per gallon to fill my 62 😡

@dogcruiser no president is perfect. While I support the vast majority of what 45 was able to accomplish, this was one thing I strongly disagreed with him on.

But hell at this point I'd happily take W or even Carter.

Gas prices are terrible but have you been grocery shopping this week. Terrible prices and some products not available. I figure what I speed on ethonol free I save in my time repairing everything.

You ain't kidding. For just myself and my two kids, and not eating fancy, my grocery budget is $400 a month. Used to fall within $200.

I like gas with no ethanol. It smells better. That being said since going Sniper EFI I’m not sure it makes a difference. Really haven’t driven it enough to get any benchmarks. Illinois doesn’t make it easy to find. Gotta get close to Wisconsin to find it.

Recently put top grade 93 (Shell) in my DD. 2009 Civic. It didn’t care. Make no difference in mileage.

Yeah newer vehicles don't seem to respond noticeably to ethanol versus non ethanol that I've noticed. In the E10 variety anyway. I don't even notice any difference in my mother's 2000 4Runner, or in the 2000 Celica and 2006 Avalon that I used to drive constantly back when I was married.
