90K and Starter replacement job

Thanks for your response. I have admired your attention to detail in doing your repairs. That is part of the reason I would consider doing it myself. I worry about what the master techs will leave undone on my vehicle. I would attempt to do it by the book and not cut corners. Tonight I will pull the cover and look at the belt. Any idea how to tell if it is original? I snagged a 2002 Land Cruiser OEM FSM set volume 1 and 2 plus the electrical for $57 last night on Ebay.

$57 is a great price, wow.

What your look for is condition, what to look for is in your FSM.
Note the belts below had ~90K miles and look like (new almost). What you can't see is pulleys or water pump. Tensioner can be removed and inspected.

If you pull skid plate off you can get a socket with breaker bar on large pulley/crank nut. Turn clockwise to inspect belt. Disconnect battery first. Tip: pulling spark plugs out, makes turning crank very easy.

If original; maybe, although white letter is most likely worn.

This has in been in my tool box for years. I use it to wrap crank pulley (harmonic balance) to protect for chain wrench I use to hold pulley. I believe (not 100% sure) it's the factory original from my 01.

I can see on a belt I just replace, which was a 2nd (not factory) "made in USA". It's very hard to see (need angle of light just right on right spot of belt) but is permanent on belt.

Since this thread is about Starters, perhaps it would be better if you use or start a different or new thread for time belt issues.

Thanks both of you for the reply. I had a valve tapping like diesel noise and posted on another thread with no response.

Found the problem to be collapsed valve shim. I am going to continue on the other thread just so it will help others stay on relevant topic. Help Identify This Engine Noise Please

Great write up. I plan on tackling both the timing belt and starter over an entire weekend. I ordered the complete Aizin water pump and timing belt kit and a refurbished Denso starter. Besides the intake manifold gasket, what additional gaskets do I need to order for this job? My blue pad is also ordered.

Sub’d. Will be doing this soon as the last TB maintenance on my truck was 8 yrs and 90k miles ago (from previous owner). Will be ordering the kit from cruiserteq.com. Any other recommendations you can provide of parts and specialty tools I can include while I’m in it is greatly appreciated.

Can someone help me explain why he set the crank position for removal and needs to check the manual for the right position? I didn't get it. Below link is to the exact position of the video
