****update: sold for asking to a nice young dude in Nashville, who flew in and drove it 10 hours back. I had multiple serious offers/inquiries within hours/days, perhaps I priced too low but I originally bought it 4 years ago for less than $2k, so didn't feel the need to squeeze any more out of it. Thanks for all the interest. Original ad is left up in entirety for posterity/pricing reference*****
I've come to the realization that I have too many projects and toys, and need to simplify my life a bit. We love the truck and it has a ton of character. It gets complements wherever we go. It costs me almost nothing to keep it so I'm not in a huge hurry to sell - I'm only posting it on ih8mud for now.
Up for sale is my '82 FJ60. I've had it for 4 years. Bought it in Austin TX; it lived in Dallas TX prior to that. Garaged for the duration of my ownership.
Pretty much all stock/original. No mods to speak of other than H4 headlights. Comes with a sweet vintage roof rack that is essentially 2x4's with special metal end pieces that grip the rails (nicer than it sounds - not pictured but can show if needed)
273k miles when I bought it but the odometer cable had been broken for years. I fixed the cable and it shows 277k now, but you should assume it's more. AC WORKS!
Starts right up and runs fine. I commuted 1.5 hours each way in the TX heat last year for a few weeks. Drives straight, brakes straight. Good oil pressure (see pic). Has some valvetrain noise. Leaks oil, power steering oil, and probably other liquids too. 4 wheel drive hi and low work. Parking brake works. New starter and alternator, several new coolant hoses. Original starter and alt included as cores for rebuilding later. Comes w/ original jack and tools. AC WORKS!
Seems to be original interior.
It's the original color but sometime (probably LONG ago) it looks like it had a single stage respray which is fading and I think gives it a sweet patina - one of my favorite things about the rig.
Very minimal rust, really nice body/frame - I scraped out the roof drip edge sealant and painted it with POR15 and re-sealed it. I just came across a few small (like 2mm) pits/bubbles that I painted over, and a few more by the passenger door close to the windshield. Both rear quarters had rust bubbles behind the mud flaps. Since I was driving the car regularly and didn't want it to get worse I ground them out, POR-15'ed them, and filled with fiberglass and smoothed them out. You can see the flat black touch up paint there. I haven't seen any structural or frame rust. There are a few dents in the body but nothing significant.
Issues? It's an old truck. The things that should be done sooner include fixing the power steering leak that recently worsened (I have a new toyota power steering pump in box included), and there is some grease leaking at the front driver side hub that spills onto the wheel and makes it messy.
Includes a big box of spares parts, manuals, etc.
Price? Let's say $3500.
Location? Beaufort, SC
While you're here buy my 13 foot boston whaler too
