Not necessarily. Doing the hydro assist ports is an easy thing to do and allows for future growth of your pink panty mobile as you start to wheel it harder. It's actually cheaper in the long run than one would think.

Yer gonna wish you had your power steering box modified for hydro assist when you actually put your pink panties on some real rocks. Either that or start carrying 50lbs dumbbells around doing bicep curls and military presses for when you try to turn the steering wheel with 37" tires when your tire is jammed into a crack.

You were right on hydro. :flipoff2:

My main concern was reliability, but considering I've now drained the PS system on the last two trips out (can't seem to keep the jam nut tight on the rebuilt box. Torqued to FSM, no avail.) today being deep in the Clayton rocks.

OE is marginal, at best. (By OE, new box with 105 shaft, new pump, new everything)

None sucks.

I did manage to bend your bumper.

To be expected when tiptoeing through the clover patch, ala elephant mode.

Another Mudder has pics he said he was sending to Mark of the DS slider in action. Seems they will support half the weight of an 80.

Here are a few shots from this weekend. In all fairness to Mark and the guys, you did come down hard as hell on the front bumper, and the Sliders, and the links, and the rear faux bumper, and the.... But we had a damn fine time. First time I've taken such a nice 80 series through Green Mamba, and backwards at that!

Don't question next time, just take the advice :flipoff2:

Looks like you bent the passenger wing. What exactly happened? And what did you bend?

Meh, it's those booger welds.

Yeah, the front bumper bang was bone jarring. I was actually surprised at the minimal damage, all things considered.

Got into the rear driveshaft and "tucked" the exhaust. Listened to the hum of exhaust on frame the whole way home. Haha.

That was the rear frame I was dragging around , not rear bumper, so will be chopping it soon, too.

When we were headed out, hit a decline steep enough that I think I sucked in whatever air was in brake resi, because they were soft. No leaks (unlike the PS) no kinks, but something else to address.

I had a blast even with mechanical issues. Good time and hope to see y'all again soon.

Still can't believe Hornsfan's FJC made it as far as it did, either. He's only running 33s. Hahaha.

One bit of valuable given and heeded was Creeper's skid. Have a ball peen sized debt in the tubular cross member.

That took some work.

So, what can I do to armor the diffs? The TG plate isn't going to cut it, and I need for both forward and reverse.

Whole corner came down on outer edge of wing.

Best I can tell it bent wing up, but also the channel across the front frame rails.

Have no clue how to straighten, but it's shim-able, if I can get the bolts un-embedded.

Clayton's some gnarly chit.

Hey Chris, did you get any pics of Bailey and I? I got to spotting and didn't think of giving Bailey the phone! Who was the guy in the FJCruiser?

Man, I saw the tail end of your and Garrett's at the onset, then never saw again until I was stuck.

Every pic I took.

That one taken so I could post this

On FJCF, considering the recovery done, involving an FJC and lack of payment for said recovery, that initiated the invite with y'all.

Hornsfan (Ryan) was in the FJC. Have a video that will post after this, that I couldn't figure out how to rotate before he posted to YouTube, highlighting the carnage.

Ryan sent this pic, which doesn't do it justice. Haha.

The shelf that's in the video and the 40 and Jeep are depicted on is what kissed the rear frame rail......hard.

Maybe where I got into rear shaft, but hard to say.

By the way, great job spotting, David. Many thanks.

There were a couple of times my pink panties were wadded internally, but thanks for talking me through it. I was pretty comfortable, until I heard you say " you're OK, but it's gonna feel a little tippy" and you reached down and grabbed the slider, then disappeared from sight. Bahahaha.

As they say, the 80 may lack grace, but inevitably will get through it. I'm just glad my seat covers are brown. Bahahaha.

Don't worry about the diffs, just make sure the ring gear has a proper guard and the rest can take it. Just keep make sure the studs are torqued before every wheeling trip as they will loosen themselves each time you land on your thirds.

And by the way, in no uncertain terms, it ain't the bumpers fault. Surprised it maintained as well as it did.

Was a hard hit. Chit happens.

Everything has a bending point, just trying to see room for improvement. Looks like we could add an internal gusset inside the frame rail to help reduce twisting.

For you I suggest pulling the wing down using a truck or forklift with a strap. Once it is in place I would weld a side gusset inside the frame rail while the bumper is still bolted to your truck.

I'm surprised at the trail rash to the diff faces, honestly. I don't have a lot of faith in the TG guard, since it's only on the face, but may build up welds along the drain ring, and look into one of the stouter versions. Heard it's more critical with 5.29 s to protect, and I need all I can get.

Had thought I could run a strap around bumper, then drive forward on strap to force submission, but will be cautious however.

What I was thinking was pulling straight, as described, then welding plate along the bottom and top of bumper returns, on the inside of the frame rail. End result, a channel that the frame rail slides into.

Is that what you're describing?

You can try a diff cover with something along these lines but you'll have to come up with something custom for the LC 9".

Toyota 8" Diff Armor

Yes that's exactly what I'm talking about welding a plate inside there the frame rails.

Would it be wise to box all the way to where the tubes penetrate?

How about rear link frame ramps?

Got hung once on it and a slider foot, and it appears easy enough to smooth the transition out, thinking with two pieces of plate, not boxed.

Going to make face plates for the diffs and weld plates to the diff bottoms.

Want to armor up, and listening to any advice.

If you plate the link ramps you may as well box them in.

I would box all the way forward seeing that you've bent it once already it has been weakened. Need as much additional strength as you can get.
