Just picked this up needs some work as it's leaking oil (not exactly sure from where yet). Also The previous owner didn't have the ebrake connected and I'll need to do that to pass inspection.

It was a nice day out this past weekend, so I pulled the HDJ81 out of the garage for some sun. Couldn't resist testing both lockers and flexing it out a bit. Shameless.

[

The Cruiser gets parked all winter, so some sun is good for it.
Tried the same snowbank with my Tacoma, withouot the lockers was a little harder.

Got me a '94 Cruiser

1. 1994 Landcruiser with leather (I assume it's the base model)
2. Errol Young (jatrekker)
3. None as yet but thinking Jambrazuca
4. 216K+
5. None as yet
6. Weekend driver and planning a long drive

It has been sitting for over 1 year now with the previous owner and since I bought it. The owner mentioned that it had a "Check Engine" light on for awhile and that it went into limp home mode (perhaps).

My mechanic started it and says that it runs but he hasn't done any work on it as yet. My goal is to change all the fluids, belts, tune-up, check brakes, repack diff, check tranny, shocks, et al before actually driving it.

Also, I saw that the sunroof is leaking like a river by the driver's side pillar. So, I'm thinking that the drain is plugged and that it needs cleaning out. I may need to change the carpet too since it may have been leaking for some time.

The interior needs other work since the previous owner had a big dog who teared up the 2nd row of seats. So, I'm thinking all the seats either redone or just get covers for now.

I am open to any advice to get this Cruiser back on the road... keep in mind that I have a wife, a baby, a 5 year old, and a small dog as companions.

I'll send more pictures after it is back in shape.

  5. 17x8" Gear Recoils with Kuhmo's (on it when purchased) a JVC Head unit, dash speakers, custom bumper trim screws. leaky tank. (easy repair....Will do write up)
  6. todo bumpers, yes both who only does one??? some lights, new sway bar end links (there gone) in rear, trailer light mod(repair), rocker rust repair and undercoat to door line. Finish finding leaks and stopping them in their drips....
I found it in Ames IA at a yota dealer, it looked clean online as most things do so I took the chance on a lowish ball offer to the dealer, to my luck they wanted to sell the 21 year old with near a quarter million miles. All in all it was solid when I picked it up with way too much silicon dripping from it, but needed some work. I accepted the fact its a yota and didn't care what needed done as it will always be there. I have less than 4k in it with a fuel tank repair, full service, fluid change, and some bulbs. Its definitely not as clean of a one owner rig as SEKhunds (my dad) but its solid, trusty, and gives no shi*ts.

After getting it home I learned that the one previous owner rig was sold new at Mid City Toyota in Lincoln, Ne(original papers in owners packet). Iowa tightened it up a bit but traveling the highways of central Nebraska has opened the FJ80 up and makes it feel alive again. Or at least as alive as a 92 can feel....

Hi all, just purchased today and reviewed hundreds of posts here prior to purchase, everyone's input provided for a very easy transaction for me as I knew what to look for and what my intentions are with the rig...

Picked this up a couple weeks ago. Use to be Johnny Bee's and yes I know he took swimming.

Other then the front locker not engaging, lazy power locks on the back doors and it needs a oil pump seal it seems to be doing quite well. 133k.
Triple locked, Depo lights OME heavies. Typical build

Bought this back in October to replace my totaled P/U, and I love it. I always admired LCs but never knew much about them. I had no idea they were this well made. I'm truly impressed. This 22 year old vehicle is rock solid, no rattles or squeaks. I'm hauling kids and grocs, so it is so nice to have enclosed cargo space for a change.

Sorry about the crappy photo; this is actually from the sale ad. I'll try to get a better one up at some point. The truck really does look better than in the picture.

I am pretty amazed at the condition it is in. For the most part, everything works! I spent about $150 at cruiserparts.net for little odds & ends and now I'm working on replacing that stock stereo. Front and rear bumber/cargo/jerry-can mods could be in the near future. I doubt I would do a lift since it already gets a bit bouncy around 75mph on the highway.

I did find a pintle receiver mount from Rigid Hitch and coupled it with a military pintle chain plate so that it does not interfere with the aluminum rear bumper/x-member cover, and I can move it up to improve my departure angle. I'll try to get pictures of that for a separate post.

About the name: When researching this truck I was reading the WikiPedia page on Land Cruisers, and it mentioned that when the redesigned FJ80 body style hit Colombia (South America), it acquired the nickname "burbuja" (bubble) because of its rounded shape. My wife is from Colombia and my kids speak Spanish, so we all started calling mine "Burbujas" or "Bubbles", which I also like because of the character from Trailer Park Boys.
