I had a 60 and sold it about five years ago. Finally bought an 80 and love it. Shifts like butter. Havn't had much chance to do any mods or maintenance except check fluids and zirks.

Hello MUD,
Well I did it. I finnaly bought a 95 Locked and Loaded LC. I got it home and realized that I had a swollen lip from the Knee-jerk reaction of purchasing this truck. In hindsight I should have waited for one in a little better shape but I have made my bed and it's time to lay in it.
The vehicle was purchased from a private party in Auburn, CA. I drove it for an hour or so before handing the money over. In that hour I checked the fluids a few times at different temps. Looking for any sign of the dreaded BHG. Things looked good and the motor ran strong. I signed on the dotted line and began the journey back to the bay area (an hour and 45 min from Auburn). By the time I arrived at our home the motor had consumed 80%+ of the coolant, the rad was hissing and popping like a marmot. waited for the system to cool and filled it back up. I drove the truck very lightly for the next couple of days and kept an eye on the coolant and motor oil. There were no significant changes to either. Needles to say, I was feeling pretty good about my purchase. That is, until the check engine light came on.
Pep boys coded it for free and it turns out there was a missfire on cylinder 5. I pulled the plugs and sure enough found a little coolant on plug 5. A reputable shop in my area did a compression and leak-down on the motor and said that i indeed had a BHG. After a week of deliberation (and the shop adding 1,000 dollars to the price of the repair every time I called) I decided to have a differnt motor put in. I felt like i was throwing the baby out with the bath water but i dont have the tools or space to do this job on my own not to mention the core charge on the motor was incentive enought to let it go.
That brings us up to date. I get the LC back today around 4PM. I will be sure to take some photos for the registry.
I thought I would introduce myself to this forum considering how much time i have spent stealing ideas from you guys. Thanks alot for all the advice and technical info!

The seller failed a smog test two hours before he sold me the truck. he looked me dead in the eye and said "we havent tried since it passed two years ago" the crook. Luckily the new motor passed with flying colors and all this work wasn't just wasted time and money.
Now the fun begins...Tires are first on my list(well right behind tracking down the prick who is running around with my money) and we will see where it goes from there.

I would just buy a scan gauge 2. It monitors various engine items including water temp. Plus it lets you check engine codes.

5. Mods: 20" rims with 315-50s that came with the tank six months ago. I rebuilt the engine last month due to a head gasket failure at 180K. Possible supercharger or turbo addition in the near future along with some fresh custom paint and a spare set of mud tires and rims for the back country.
6. How the truck is used: Road Trips and Trailer Hauling in Northern Illinois, USA.
