The vast majority of offroad lights I see around here are indeed covered up.
I would suggest that -until a proper cover is secured- you have the lights point to the sky instead of the road to reduce the chances of getting a ticket if stopped. Easy to readjust when offroad. May even be sufficient to do altogether, depending on the VC language? (Of course, this being the PRK you may be fined also for interfering with air traffic, though... :) )

Any LED light bar has to have a non-transparent (black).. cover on it while driving on city streets/roads. If a cop wants to be a **ck, he can give you a ticket (in California). This is to prevent drivers from "Flashing" people and potentially causing issues with bright LED light bars.

I was warned about this pulling out of my works underground parking structure yesterday by a cop.

Thanks! Like I said, I see them all the time around here uncovered and hadn't really thought about the legality of them being covered or uncovered. Thanks!

Good to hear! So, I have been looking at the new site. In this GB, you had:

13.5” 72W
LED: (24) 3W Cree
Power Draw : 4.2A
Mounting Width: 405.2mm
Lumen Count:5280lm
I dont see those on your site. Are you still doing that size? I was thinking of doing one of those in a spot with a pair of these in a flood pattern:

16W 2X2:
-4 Cree LED’s
-1.34 Amp Draw
-12V-24V
-30* Flood
-5* Spot.
-1000 Lumens

Also, are you making any harnesses yet? I am thinking of one that would run all three lights from the front ARB 03+ to the Aux battery location where I will have one of these:
http://www.dirtboundoffroad.com/accessories/aux-relay-fuse-panel/ then run to a switch where we put the locker switch on our rigs.

Jonathan, I will send you a link to the retrofit harness I used which included relays. I'm on my phone now so finding link is cumbersome.

Any way you could post that to this thread? I am also curious. If not, no worries.

If you want to tie it into your low beams you can use a 9006/9006 Y-Splitter to plug into the OEM high beam socket to connect the relay harness on the LC. This will trigger the relay with the high beams and turn on the light bar.

80AMP's is going to be enough to run the 32" and 42". Use the driver side output for the bumper mounted light bar, and make a 5-7ft extension to reach the roof mounted 42". They will all turn on with the high beams (OEM switch). That is how I have mine wired.

Nick or anyone else with wiring knowledge,

My LX has the upgraded light harness from Slee as well as the auxiliary light harness. I'd like to hook up the 22" light bar to the aux harness and run it with the high beams based on how I installed the harness. The plan was to cut the pigtails off of the aux harness and connect the appropriate 9006 connection so that the light bar can be plugged in.

I don't know much about wiring, but I see that the wires coming from the light bar are thicker than the wires on the aux harness. Do I need to install the light bar to a thicker gauge wire or will the Slee harness handle it?

Gracias!

What is the Slee harness rated for (AMPs?). The 22" pulled 8.2A at 12V, I doubt you will have any issues with the Slee HD harness. The wiring difference is fine, with sensitive/high load applications, wiring gauges need to be the same. I would not worry about it in your case.

Willl there be light covers for the 22" bars ?

Everything from the 2X2 (Tessera now) to the 42" and future 52". Amber, clear, black and red will be available.

FYI: We have a few of our lights out at KOH. They are mounted on the support/media team for Greg Adler. Also have a few that will be put through there paces at the Everyman's Race. Should be exciting! I wish I was out there.

Thanks! Wonder if they have anything like this at Lowes or Home Depot...

They do not.... I live in the DC area and they arrived next day.... Minimum order is a box of 25 and you have to buy
the socket to put these on.
I had a chance to start wiring last night... I ordered Expandable Braided Sleeving from Grainger to finish off the wires

Sorry if this has already been answered, but there are 24 pages and I couldn't find it.

Did you (or anyone else) ever get a firm answer as to whether the SLEE mount will work on the 21" Bar? I was going to make my own but plan to order their Harness sometime soon and would just go ahead an pick up one of these if they will work.

Thanks,

Matt

Can anyone give me a rundown of how roof-mounting without a roof rack works? especially regarding wire-hiding and bracket attachment.

My thoughts would be a crossbar like a Yakima of Thule to mount the light and use waterproof wire glands to run wires through the roof.. That's my plan for wiring the roof..got the idea from 98 Snake Eater...picture from his thread

Fog Light Switch Question

I posted this in the 80s Tech section but didn't get much of a response and noticed that this thread was moved to "lighting" so I figured I ask again here. I also see that many here are asking the same about the Slee auxiliary harness but my question adds the fog light switch that I plan to use. Copied from my other thread:

"I have had this this fog light switch laying around (don't know what year it is) and want to use it to wire up my new LED light bar. I have the Slee upgraded light harness (already installed and in use) and auxiliary harness that will be used as well. The problem is I know nothing about auto electric/wiring. I have looked but can't find anything that shows me what each wire is on the switch so I can hook it up to the 2 wires on the Slee harness. How do I wire this thing up? Any help is greatly appreciated."

You need to find a wiring diagram for that. There is a input, output, and a ground for the switch.

Edit: Found this, very similar to the 4-pin. The top pin is going to be the input from the battery, the second pin is going to go to the light bar. The 3rd pin can get power from a lit switch nearby. The bottom is going to be grounded (somewhere in the foot well). If you want to use a relay harness, the output is going to go into the relay harness, which is plugged into the light bar.

Dont quote me on this, I can't confirm it's the same switch, but I am pretty certain. What was that switches use before? I can't quite understand the top two pins...
