it's an LX Shane's kit but he did a lot of pading work
Shane's rewrap steering wheel doesn't match the rest of the interior colors.

Quenton does really nice work. He has done upholstery work for my gyms. When i decide to recover everything in the 80 he is going to be my go to guy.
 
Trying to solve a problem. Here's what I got:

I need an an additional 1/4" backspacing on an 80 wheel to clear the front calipers on a project. Ordinarily, I'd just add a 1/4" spacer and be done with it, but I want to keep the hub centric benefit of the hubs and wheels. Because the spacer is only 1/4" thick, it can't be machined to where it's both hub centric AND wheel centric. Therefore, I'm left with two choices: either run a spacer and eliminate the hub centric benefit (not really what I want) or "clearance" the web of the wheels to allow enough space to avoid caliper/wheel interference (the way I'm leaning - Rob doesn't think enough material will be removed to where it'll be a problem).

I know it's a little difficult to make an assessment without seeing the amount of material that'll need to be removed, so I'm starting to think of a third possibility: any of you think a wheel machine shop could weld a 1/4" spacer on the hub of the wheel precisely enough to recover the hub centric benefit?

Long post, but I'm just trying to come up with a suitable solution. Thx.
 
Can you grind the calipers where it contacts?

FWIW I run hub-centric 80-wheels on spacers (bolt-on lug-centric style) with no balancing problems.

Yeah, there's a boss on the upper part of the caliper that can be ground off, but there also seems to be evidence of wheel contact on the body of the caliper (little concerned about grinding into that area). Maybe I just need to do like you're doing, and just try a spacer and see if I have any balancing issues........
 
Yeah, grinding doesn't concern me, but it's WHERE it appears to need to be ground that concerns me. Rob seems to think it's too close to fluid journals......

I would grind caliper before grinding a wheel. You should see how much I had to grind off my d60 to run 15" wheels! There is amazingly little pressure on brake fluid lines/passages. Worst case you ruin a caliper in the attempt.
