 Man, that thing is coming to gether fast and looking great too! Keep it up!

Well assembly has finally begun on my rig! I may just have it back together for Christmas. As you can see there are lots of pieces to throw back together. I am using all new gaskets and stainless hardware everywhere. If there was a crack it got a shot of seam sealer. The underside has had POR 15, chassy black and then undercoating. I now waiting on my HFS lift, 1.5 over shakles and all greasable hardware on the underside. Tie rod ends and brake parts are on the shelf awaiting there turn and finally a set of BFG AT 10.5 x 33s X 5 on the freshly coated original rims.

Getting closer! I am hoping to have everything assembled by the weekend. The top is the last big obsticle. Also found out the new stainless windsheild hooks I received are too long. I will have to call CCOT to check into the issue. I included one picture at the end for the bezel police.

Wow! The rig looked great when you bought it and looks immaculate now. Great work. I hope you still have some pocket change to sling some Christmas presents around.

I want it!

Good luck on the CCOT issue. I've purchsed stuff from them multiple times and have been fairly happy. One item I purchased was a bumper bolt kit for an FJ62. Some bolts were SAE and some were metric. I guess not a big deal except for the fact that some were too big to fit through the holes in the bumper and the most important ones that needed to be metric to fit the factory threaded metric holes in the chassis were not the correct thread. I contacted them about the problem. They replied that they would get back to me with a solution. After weeks, I never heard back. I contacted them again. Never any response. I gave up. Its not worth my time since it wasn't a very expensive bolt kit. Its just frustrating when you place a $500 order and get decent quality on most stuff but then also pay for a useless pile of $20 hardware. I've since placed orders with $OR.com instead when it comes to hardware. I hate to pay their prices but I've always gotten OEM quality when I ordered from them. And yes, I've also ordered from Cruiser Dan but when I need things like non OEM-springs bushings and a few pieces of OEM hardware, its easier to just place one order from $OR. Besides, once in a while, I like to remember what its like to get $crewed. :ban:

Wow, thats impressive. did you have someone do the paint and prep or did you do it all yourself. I am not very versed in that, Yet, but maybe if it helps save time and money.

I did the easy part...I paid for the paint. I was quite fortunate to know a good little body shop here in my local town. We worked together for about a month on what to do and what would look right. I am now on my portion of the build, the lift and the engine. More updates coming soon.

Hey Dunn how bout an update?! What did you use to sand down the fiberglass? Also did you use any penetrating oil on the bolts for the top? Did you break any?

Like '77 I don't really know what I'm doing with the paint and body but wanted to save some money. Here I am a month and a half later still workin on the front clip! At least I have it primed now!

Seein your '79 makes me want to get to work on my '79!

Sorry for the delay in answering the posts above. I have been out of the country for a few days. Once I returned I began installing the HFS 2.5 lift. Rear is complete. The front will be in today. As for the top, just a light sanding with a fine grit sandpaper. I know the purist would say you should gel coat since it is fiberglass. However, I have painted other brand fiberglass tops with long lasting success. As for the bolts, I have been VERY fortunate not to have the first fastener break other than of all things the antenna fastener. I will update photos after the lift is complete. Thanks for the comments.

Well at last I am through (if there is such a thing) with the first stage of the resto work on my 79 FJ40. The body has been sanded down and painted. All doors, windsheild top etc. was taken apart and painted separately prior to reassembly. All new gaskets and stainless hardware was used in reassembly. New seat covers, bedliner and headliner graces the interior. The underside sports a new HFS 2-1/2" lift with 1.5" shakles. Holding all of this pile of parts in the air is a set of BFG 10.5x33 MT on the original set of skinny rims. The underside has been coated in POR15 and chassie black. See what you think.
