77 mechanical throttle linkage issue...what is wrong with my setup?? (1 Viewer)

I am running out of things to fix. When I got my 77 it had a weber conversion with a hacked up cable throttle. I went back to OE carb and picked up the parts for the linkage to put mine back to stock. It is working, but as you can see it doesn't line up properly. The rod that goes from the firewall to the carb is at an angle. Surely it wasnt designed this way? Do I have parts from a wrong year or just put together wrong? Any help or pictures would be great. Thanks!!

I dont know, from what I can tell from the parts diagrams I "think" I have the right parts.

Went out to the garage and snapped a couple of pics for comparison.... not sure if this will help as I couldn’t get a clear shot!

Something about the bracket bolted to the carb base on yours looks..... different?

My vote goes to an incorrect torque rod bracket. It looks to me like it is holding the torque rod too far towards the passenger’s side. My linkage from the gas pedal is vertical, while yours is being pushed to the passenger’s side as well. If that bracket was further towards to driver’s side, both the linkage and torque rod would align properly.

MS, I agree, but I cant figure out how to fix it. It cant be flipped over, and I cant find a picture of one that is different. Huck's picture looks like mine.

The angle of the dangle on your rod is incorrect, so one of the brackets is most likely incorrect or the carb doesn’t match the linkage.

Thanks Jeff! Doing well. After doing some more searching it seems the link on the main rod at the carb is backwards That is making the link to the carb show a very steep angle. Here is a pict I found, I think the firewall bracket is correct....I think.

Yep! Why, I have no idea. Going to remove it and see if I can swap it around and retack weld it.

I’ve got several, but they are complete sets, and I don’t want to break them up, as I plan on using/selling the complete kits.

Are you talking about the torque rod?

well, I went out and took it apart. It has to go the way it is because the short rod going to the carb has the sockets on the same side. The short carb rod in the picture I found has the each socket end on opposite sides. The ball on the torque rod can be removed and swapped the proper direction. So, all I really need is the short carb rod with the sockets on the opposite sides. That make any sense??

I guess I have a rare set up! I am sure a guru will come along and make me smack my head!

It’s the wrong year linkage for that carb. I ran into the same problem. Once I obtained the matching linkage for the carb, All was good

FWIW - The linkage on my '77 looks like this:

You can see the off-set on the accelerator torque rod, middle-left of photo below...I think that off-set is for the PCV line, access path down to connect to the intake mani, but that is a guess on my part.
