@emac , what about bending this tab slightly to align with the red mark I made? It should help things tremendously, and would likely last indefinitely.

Not to hijack the thread either, but does anyone know the part # of these grommets? Still available?

sorry number above is a grommet for torque rod.

I think 90540-09059 is the correct number the grommets you circled. there is also a metal insert #90560-06238 Need 2 of each and 1 of the number in prior post.

Yes, that will help. I would really like to get the short linkage that goes between the carb and torque bar. It has to be one with the attachments opposite of each other. I can swap the mount on the torque bar to make it look like the proper year.

If anyone has one of the short carb to torque bar links please let me know how much. Thanks!

Iirc, it’s still available

Thanks Andrew! Fingers crossed it seems to be available for $9! Torque rod is NLA. Looks like those rubber grommets for mounting to the firewall are NLA. I believe I ran into that issue and found some very similar grommets and metal tubes at a hardware store.

I should have everything from a 77. I have to look for head bolts today so I will keep my eye out for the linkage.

Found only 2 firewall brackets. No idea what happened to the 77 linkage. If you want them let me know.

Yup. Went to my local dealership and yup, NLA on the “cushions”.

:(

Try measuring some old ones and finding a match online. After thinking about it, I believe that is what I did and got the metal sleeves from Lowes. I could look and see if I can find where the grommets came from, if you want.

@emac I thought I had some linkage pieces left, but no luck searching my garage. Is there any reason you couldn't just drill the one you have all the way through. Once you put the retainer clip on it won't matter that the hole goes all the way through, right?

Good thought! I was thinking of cutting the rod in half and rotating it 90 degrees and rewelding it. I used my welder all weekend, so for the next few weeks everything will need to be welded!

I got another rod ordered, so I should have it worked out. Rusty is sending me a firewall mount that looks a little different than mine. Thanks for all the responses. I am always amazed at how many people on MUD do so much to help each other out. If only all the politicians owned Fj40's!
