Added some "bling", new 2F sticker on the valve cover...

It was like opening king Tut's tomb...I did find 12 cents. That should help defray some of the cost...;)

I had to "recalibrate" my power steering assist modulator. It was giving me fits at low speed...I think maybe the bearings are starting to show their age :smokin:

Looking great Chungas!!!!!!!!!!!!! I also really like the poilshed valve cover. Hey a question about the '76; can the front axle be upgraded to the fine spline birfs like the '78????

Great thread and great spinner - mine's on the left side - makes life so much easier, especially when working a handthrottle and shifting with the right hand.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the thumbs up....

I am still chasing Alice down the rabbit hole....Seems like my start point keeps shifting to the right....But as I read through some of these threads, that is a common malady....

I upgraded mine with birfs from an FJ60 (fine spline). Cost me 40 bucks. Picked them up from Jim's Yoda yard in Denver.

Thanks for the birf info......hey how did you polish you valve cover to that level??? Mine has some shellac type, maybe urethane type yellowing on it...could acetone on a rag remove that??

Ha!...Mad Brasso skills indeed!!!!!

Started with a 400 grit, went to 600, 1200 then 2000 grit sanding (all wet sanding). Then used a high speed buffing wheel and a jewelers rouge. Then a good aluminum polish by hand with a diaper (cotton not "pampers"). The smoother the aluminum the easier it will polish out in the end. So, your wet sanding is really important. Take your time and make sure you knock it down one sanding at a time. I have also found that copious amounts of "Hefeweizen" applied at regular intervals throughout the process will help wile away the hours you'll have invested in polishing your cover.

I did the grunt work with the wet sanding. One of my ner' do-well buddies worked the jewelers rouge and aluminum polish...

Pay no heed to instigators from western Maryland... Malcontents, provocateurs and dissidents at their very best.o_O

Where did you find the toyota wheel spinner? Is it toyota or made to be toyota?

Here is one of two forklifts I use during the summer months... My favorite is a Komatsu 5 ton aka BigBirtha :)

Want to get a period correct old school Toyota Forklift spinner someday ... You know what they say ... Once you spin a forklift wheel no other wheel will do :)

I wanted one on my cruiser ever since ... Hope BigBirtha don't get jealous when I do lol

Johny C, if that is your real name?

I rue the day I read "The almost one week resto, JohnnyC's Quickto Resto". Now I have over-caffeinated late nights looking through Craigs list, E-bay and begging Beno to find the last original TLC Fj40 floor mat in the western hemisphere. I find myself alone in the garage on Friday evenings, staring blankly at the corroded rear sill of my 76, revving my air gun and mumbling incoherently about original "fog lights" ....You sir, and your one week restoration, have led me (albeit willingly) down some twisted and winding road to perdition. Instead of living a quiet and peaceful life, tucked comfortably in some forgotten nook of the Appalachians, sipping on a mason jar of "Preston County branch water", I now find myself wondering if I've added enough ZDDP to my Wheaties......

And, for this sir, I can't thank you enough...Send me your address and I'll be happy to send you my "power steering assist modulator"....;)

The problem is that your adding the ZDDP to the wrong cereal... It needs to added to Coco Puffs ... The Coco puffs are lacking ZDDP ... Wheaties already has it added... Fruity Pebbles has a marginal amount so it's your call on that one LOL

Just curious but do these really help? Considered adding one to my steering wheel for years but was afraid I'd break my hands on the trail. Still have "armstrong" manual steering and sometimes the steering wheel spins out of control in big ruts while wheeling. Of course the 35 x 12.50's I'm running don't help either but I do like the "Popeye" forearms I get turning the big wheel all Summer. Thanks!
