@Mr Cimarron did not turn the heat up on you. Just kidding. Really like what you do. Very creative.

Hey Cim, for the Auben Instruments guages that you have, what are you using for the sending units? Do you think those guages could be massaged to fit in the late model 80 switch slots? I want to wire up fuel pressure, oil temp, oil pressure and coolant temp guages on the 6BT80.

I’m using the sensors they sell off their website. A few of the gauges I bought bundled with sensors.
I think they might be a bit big for 80 switch locations but I’ll see how they fit tonight.

Thanks Cim. I saw the fit garage is getting them into 70 series switch slots with a bit of dremel action.

70 slots are same as 80.

Comparing the Auber to an 80 switch blank. The height is pretty spot on but the width wouldn’t fit without some grinding.

It does require a bit of dremel work to get it to fit. I helped my brother install an Auber pyrometer in his HDJ81, it turned out pretty good, but the main problem is that the gauge unit is too deep for the space behind the switch blanks in an 80. I can grab a photo at some point if you’d like.

I got a few things done. My clutch arrives Saturday but I forgot I need to get the flywheel machined first. I don’t have time this weekend for anything so it looks like early next week for install if I can find a place to do the resurface quickly. Once that’s in I can start figuring out trans crossmember placement. I’m also hoping @NLXTACY gets in the NV4500/HF2A adapter game as I still need that piece to finish the drivetrain. It would be nice to keep dollars spent staying in the Land Cruiser community.

I also broke my first Harbor Frieght tool! My ratcheting 10mm broke while removing the starter. I’ll bring it in for replacement and see how their “lifetime warranty” works. I did whack it pretty good with a mallet to get the bolt loose.

Yeah they need plenty of room with the way the wires screw in.

Thank you Cim. Those guages go deep!

A picture would be great. Where in your brothers HDJ81 did you mount the gauge and how did you handle the depth issue.

Found this one. Probably the best spot since you won’t be cutting into and factory plastic. Plus plenty of room behind.

Yeah that is an option. I would have to relocate my battery monitor that I have in that spot though.

Here are a couple of photos. The gauge sticks out a little more than a quarter inch, but I feel it makes it easier to see given that it is very low on the dash.

Had you considered putting them below the radio? I think that’s where I’ll put mine. I’ve decided on the auber’s as well. Looks good!

Actually that’s what I did in my first 70-series. I just used some Velcro to stick it down so it didn’t rattle. I think that ease of running wires was a main consideration when we installed the Auber in the HDJ81. It’s much easier to pull wires through a 70 dash than an 80.

I got a little bit done today. Flywheel and clutch installed. I misplaced my pivot ball in my messy wgarage so the bell housing will have to wait. I also put the peddles back in for mock up. The top brake mount nut was pulled out at some point during it’s mine life so need to weld in a new one. Also need to figure out a clutch adapter for the Dodge MC which install with a push and twist method instead of bolts.
I will tack in the weld nut this week as I didn’t feel like getting the welder fired up late in the day.

I managed to muscle the NV4500 into place. I thought it would be easier to line up with no body in the way but I still struggled for an hour. Tailhousing is off at Wits’ End being used to make the adapter for transfer case so I will have to wait for crossmember placement. Plenty to do in the meantime.

More progress...forward and backwards. I was able to finish mock up of the clutch pedal and master cylinder. I didn’t want to do any cutting/welding on the firewall so I made an adapter out of alluminim for the twist lock Dodge MC. This is my second one made and now it can be removed and cleaned up and painted when the time comes. I also cut the Dodge push rod and welded it to a bolt so I could use the Toyota end to mount to metal. There is no adjustment on the Dodge pushrod.

Now for going backwards. I attempted to rebuild the turbo over the weekend and broke two bolts and stripped two more trying to tear the damn thing down. This morning I took it into turbo shop to get a professional opinion on whether to punt and source another. They attempted to take it apart but called me to say they had no luck. So now I need a turbo which is kinda good because I can look for whatever I want now. My budget is key here so I can’t go expensive.
