Here is what I know about the trails offered each day for this event.
There will be 4 or so trails offered each day, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Look at the trail information for each trail. Pick several trails you might like to do over the weekend. Not all trails can be offered each day, so at a drivers meeting , each day's trail offerings will be announced and you can line up behind the day's trail leader . We hope to have the trails being offered all weekend on Friday , so you can plan your rides for the rest of the weekend.
The meeting place is the KOA, 26 Cibola Sands Loop , just off Hwy 53, just south of I-40. 4x4's will line up in front of the KOA along this short Loop road, beginning at 8:30 am each day. A short drivers meeting will follow and rides will leave for each trailhead about 9:00 am.
Full tank of GAS, Food and H2O, Dress for mountain weather. There is still snow near the top of Mt Taylor. Bring food for a lunch stop on the trail. Plan on all day rides. Air down at start of dirt roads , air up at return to pavement.
No alcohol on the ride. Enjoy your favorite beverage after the ride.
Many of the rides need to be started at 9:00 am to get people back into Grants by the mid to late afternoon. There can be issues that happen on trails , so we have to expect some delays sometimes.
I plan to lead Rinconada, Mt Sedgwick, and go on McKenzie Ridge. Just not sure which days yet.
C B radio is good to have , but not required. I will have HAM radio, but CB will be what most trail leaders will have.
Any questions , ask away.
Let me know if you are signed up , so I can let you know of any changes. I would like to know who is going from our club.
This is a loose easy going event. Not highly structured. It is the first year for 4x4's , so we are seeing what works and hope to make this an annual event.
Much is happening in Grants, NM all weekend, so check out the event information. Food, music, Car shows and more.
