As a newbie to the 80 community this is a real bummer... I have a 6BT in my shop and come from the world of engineering and fabrication, but ideally dont want to reinvent the wheel.

Are 99% of those swapping the 6BT using the NV4500 or is there still an adapter option to use the stock auto trans? I've watched a bunch of the older YT vids from Jonesys but it appears that rig is now on a 4500??? My motor is a P-pump 97' so power will be easy and honestly fuel economy will be the name of the game since I dont have many local off roading options and my rig will be more for shore runs, MTB camping weekends and cruising...

I've done a bunch of searching and most of the old vendors are MIA, web sites are gone and the info is really old, so discouraging!

i've seen quite a few with the auto, but i think the main reason you see so many NV4500 swaps is due to the higher torque. you and i are both in the boat of late model Ppumps, so we have the most torque out the box....... if my cruiser would have been auto i'd have just done that and then when it blew up the toyota auto, i'd have swapped a manual over.

Search facebook for "6bt land cruiser conversions" and an australian group will show up. theres a few dudes on there who make adapters! they love the swap.

My 80 was the first NV4500 Jonesy's did and is on their YouTube channel. I wouldn't go any other route than NV4500 with the Cummins. I have another build in the garage that I am doing the same thing. The NV4500 came standard behind the 6BT so makes sense to keep it that way.

Bumping this since DA is no longer in business. Looking to potentially do a 6bt/NV4500/HF2A swap.

I’ve been down the rabbit hole of 4bt/6bt swap threads this week for my 80 (or 60) looking over @Mr Cimarron @Wheelingnoob @Dirty Koala @boots4 @Hojack etc.

It looks like the Wits End NV4500-HF2A conversion kit is about the only deal in town these days.

I am fine with making motor mounts and trans crossmember. My main concern is AC and accessory brackets that DA used to make. Does anyone else make adapters needed or can you still find DA parts from other vendors? Any advice for a Cummins swap in general?
Just found this hf2a/nv4500 adapter today. Definitely worth looking at. I’ll probably be using it over the wits end product.

Bad idea for a number of reasons.

1) This design uses a spud shaft which will be a failure point.
2) This is designed to work on Dodge Gas NV4500 and NV3500 trans, not the heavy duty Dodge Diesel NV4500. This makes sense since it was designed for the Jeep world.
3) It costs about 50% more than the wits end adapter.

Please correct me if I’m wrong...

In looking at the cost, the upfront cost may be somewhat more but I can avoid tearing down the transmission which adds cost.

I’m not too concerned about the spud shaft and strength. I think it would hold up fine and I would prefer to change it than deal with a modified main shaft.

No, you’ll have to take the NV4500 that is on the 6bt and change it to a gas splined main shaft, so the same step you’ll need anyway. Or, if you mix and match you’ll just have to change the input if you buy the the gas nv4500 separately from the 6bt, but you’ll have the lighter duty version. It’s so much more than Joey’s that you’ll spend more doing that way than having a shop tear down a proper HD nv4500. And I highly doubt that spud shaft will hold up for very long.

Exactly. The NV3500 and Gas NV4500 can’t handle the 6BT torque for long. You’ll be money ahead doing it the right way from the start. Get the quad4x4 rebuild manual and do it yourself...it’s not a hard job to rebuild an NV4500.

Jonesys, Duiser, Dustin can all get bent. Scum👎🏻

For the record for last 6 years Jonesy's and now AdventurevehiclesNW has no affiliation with Diesel Adapters, Duiser or Dustin Allmaras. 6 years ago Jonesy's started and grew DUISER into a business with a ton of potential as well as innovative and inspiring products for the Cummins swap land cruisers. Because of changes in business model and the direction we wanted to take Jonesy's we sold DUISER in 2015.

Unfortunately, we can't control what happens to a business when it is sold and is mismanaged buy others. It is unfortunate that some people were not happy with how DUISER was managed after Jonesy's Sold it. It is more unfortunate that even today in 2020 Jonesy's as well as Adventure vehicles NW is still unfairly being blamed for dealings that we had nothing to do with.

Regardless, Jonesy's as well as our eCommerce platform Adventure Vehicles NW is now able to provide quality Cummins conversion products to revitalize this swap in the 80 Series LC.

We just finished a batch of the the HF2A to NV4500 adapters and resplined shafts.

Hey, @Dirty Koala did you get the TM1003 and the TM1004 (manuals from quadking/torqueking), or just one of them? I scored a 2003 MW3 from a Chevy 1ton for cheap enough it made sense. And I won’t have the torque you 6bt guys have so I went for it. I will tackle the mainshaft swap myself. Well see how this goes... :D
