I've used the red soft ride kits on some of my other builds. This build was one I didn't want to separate from the chassis....a lot of the mounts can be difficult to remove due to all the rust/gunk build up. Especially the running boards. As for the firmness of the ride I can't tell between one or the other.
Okay. Good to know there's no discernable difference. I'll do a bit more research on this project scope. I figured I'd be able to swap all these without a whole body/tub removal...hmm. I know a good weeks-worth of prep/soak on all the existing hardware will be a good start.

I've not installed the kit, but I know a lot of members have without removing the tub.

Yes, you can work your way around by loosening a few adjacent mounts and replace as you go. The ones that always give me the most problems are the side steps and the ones closest to the side steps. The side steps you have to remove all of the bolts that attached to the side rocker panels. 6 or 7 per side if I remember correctly.

Worked on the patina preservation this afternoon. Hard to tell in the pics but it really pulled a lot of the surface oxidation and rust out. Applying The boil linseed is like getting the final wipe down after a new tattoo. It’s amazing. Really makes it pop.

Done.

Still need a headlight bezel with some matching character if anyone has one.

My windshield bump/rests were toast so put a new set on order along with a new windshield base weatherstrip.

For sure, but if you watch his “parting out” threads, you can generally find something with just the right amount of age on it. BTW, beautiful spring green LC..👍🏻

Not much for updates. Going to purchase a suspension kit from Redline LC's along with new body mounts. Once that gets going I'll share the progress. Just been enjoying driving the 40 to the beach and cruising around. Really wish I didn't smell like an exhaust pipe after driving though. Kinda making me consider a 2F swap with FI. I'm thinking that's the only way to eliminate the heavy exhaust fumes. Plus, when I take my 3 year old daughter for little neighborhood cruises, she's exposed to that as well.

Here are some glamour shots a random photographer (https://www.instagram.com/blake.schieffer/?hl=en) took of the 40 while we down for a surf.

Well this is more of a continuation build than a start. I just took delivery of this beauty after a long, safe, well protected coast to coast journey. This Spring Green 69 has been tastefully updated by @Mightymes and just recently serviced by Valley Hybrids who assisted in storage and shipping - thank you! At the recommendation of @orangefj45 I used Optimus Shipping. Highly recommend. The 40 was in good company! View attachment 3867534View attachment 3867535View attachment 3867536

As my intended use for it is daily enjoyment and surf trips to the beach, the soft top and frame were removed (wouldn’t fit in garage anyway) and she’s tucked (stuffed) away for now. View attachment 3867537View attachment 3867538

First items on the list are preserving this beautiful patina and protecting the chassis from this salty air.
Front disc conversion and Dobinsons suspension next in line.

Thanks @CarcaineProblems for making this all happen! Pleasure working with you.
Awesome rig! looks like mine, a lot like mine!

Nice build so far. Looking forward to what you think about the Redline suspension . I am considering the same one for my fst.
What was your method for the patina preservation? It looks great!

I’m looking forward to the suspension. I’ve had some good communication with the folks at Redline and they’ve been a great help. Still working on the shipping logistics.

For patina preservation I just followed @wngrog process here: Preserving Patina - How To Tips and Tricks - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/preserving-patina-how-to-tips-and-tricks.1097611/

CLR and green scotchbrite or rag (be careful here) to remove the oxidation then follow with boiled linseed oil.
