The body is sitting in pieces awaiting funds to repair and repaint, so I'm working on getting the engine back together and started. Last hookup is the oil filter. But the elbow fitting on the new SOR oil line is a tapered thread and the threads coming out of the canister are straight (measured as 13mm with 1.5mm threads or ½" with 16.9 threads per inch). So, what kind of fitting is that? Seems to be the same as the early fuel lines- so is that just something completely non-standard now?

You are correct on both counts: those are straight fittings, which seemed impossible for me to find when I needed new fuel lines. Yes, they are the same as the oil filter.

In the case of my fuel lines, I was able to have all new lines built using the fittings I salvaged from my old fuel and oil lines. In the case of the oil lines, I was able to get them before Toyota discontinued them a few years ago. SOR now offer an oil filter kit to convert your engine to a spin-on filter, but I'm sure you don't want to buy all of that after you went through the trouble to clean up the canister. Maybe you'll get lucky and find NOS oil lines, since the parts were still available less than 5 years ago.

Edit/addendum: looks like you got lines for the spin-on filter adapter. My oil lines have black woven (not SS) sheath and no elbow adapters.

Let me see if i can locate the right fitting for you. Looks like you need a female to male fitting. On the male side, what threads are those? In other words, which threads are on the female side of the hose?

Heirloom- yeah, I thought about doing the spin-on conversion but I'm trying to stay stock- maybe when filters get impossible to find I will. Maybe I could hide it inside the existing canister when I do!

jvincig01- Are you a magician? If I were to stick with the new line I have, here are the two ends of the (swivel) elbow I'd need:

FEMALE (to oil canister)- 13mm x 1.5 straight threads
13mm is 33/64, close to ½”, 1.5 is 16.9 threads per inch. So it's a metric since there's nothing around 17 tpi in any other standard. It's close to AN-8 but not really.

MALE (to hose)- I think is JIC-4? (7/16” -20 tpi?) flare end.

More mysteries...

I just finished every single fitting on my 67 so I just went through this. I first started with the fuel pump and two fittings that connect to the block. Those are BSPT 1/8-28. Now on the other end that connects to the hoses, I went with 1/4 standard 37deg flare. This allowed me to use whatever lines I liked without having to get fancy. I am still digging, but your best bet for fittings like this is Parker. If you get familiar with the product lookup, I am pretty sure you can find what you're looking for. I am digging around for you as well... http://ph.parker.com/us/en/triple-lok-37-flare-jic-tube-fittings-and-adapters

The male thread on your oil canister is most likely "British Standard Pipe Parallel" 1/4 -19 thread, per the chart below:

If your elbow is definitely femalie JIC, then you should get a BSP female swivel by male JIC that matches your canister fitting and your elbow.

They are available at larger hydraulic suppliers or of course via internet.

Do you know if this is the same oil canister used for a 63? If so could you give me its part number, can't clearly see it in your picture. Thanks!!

Can't find information about different oil canisters for 67 and earlier cruisers, do you know of a thread?

It's the same as my early 64 canister

Sorry for the slow reply, Joseph... but here's my 67 canister, all freshened up. But I don't know if it's the same as your '63

Just looked for the part number 15600-60010 and all it refers to is the filter element, which is still available.
I also found another # 15600-40011 but it looks like these canisters are hard to find. If you come across any let me know,
I'll also post on parts wanted. Thanks.
