Outstanding! How bout the sound of that olf "F".... I go out and start mine just to hear it pur....

I'll be your going to have fun driving that rig over to pick your wife up at work at the car dealer :-)

Truck looks GREAT!

It does sound good...purrs like a kitten...Not sure I can pry my wife out of her red vert but she'll probably let me pick her up for lunch at least...

Anyway... I searched about valves and heaters trying to find an answer but didnt come up with much on this: The valve in the pic is between the lower rad hose and a tap in the rear of the engine? why? should it be open or closed?

im pretty sure that valve allows warm water to flow to your heater box in the cab of the truck. Leave open in the winter and close in the summer.

Thanks,,,Theres no heater box in it yet...Its still in the garage..havent put it in yet...I'll take a better picture of where it goes into the head in the rear...I understand why I'd want it to valve the water between heater or not but this goes just from the front lower rad hose to the port in the rear of the head...like its bypassing the heat alltogether maybe? especially since the heatbox isnt installed?

just came across this thread, $530!!thats the best deal ive ever heard of!!! awesome deal for an awesome 65, you are doing a great job on the build so far, it looks fantastic, I look forward to seeing more

Ya the PO probably bypassed the heater just to get it fired up. When the heater is installed you will most likely have a hose from the lower radiator to the heater and another hose (the one pictured) to the heater also. My 65 did not have a factory heater. My PO plumbed an after market in between the lower radiator hose and the bypass hose. A good pic of where it is going into the back of the head/block would be interesting. I just went and looked and i don't have a spot to connect in the back. Just a couple of freez plugs.

OK...heres where it goes into the rear....Until I install the heater should I keep the valve open or closed or does it matter? (the hose on the right is hiding the red valve handle but you can see how its piped)...

Sik. Sik. Sik! Good karma to your boss.

The air cleaner measures about 2.75" top to bottom, but appears as it fits between 1/2" and 3/4" down onto the carb. The first half inch is an adjustable rubber clamp - and then a metal ring that may or may not fit over as well - probably rests on top. The neck you tried to describe goes down at a gentle angle to the air filter housing - probably to match the fact that it's located closer to the grille and compensates for the slope of the hood.

Concur with the comments about UC - you need to get on the club forum there. Of course, nothing but riff raff - as they've let me be a member for years now. I'm not certain - but I thought Bruce from UC was from Florence - he has a blue 40 that he's wheeled with us at Tellico - and a soft top 40 that's beautiful. Post up there and find out who your next too - hopefully I'll get a chance to meet you next June - love old 40's with vent windshields.

Thanks for the measurement....The bolt that the windshield bumper/rest has going through the hood is whats making the clearance a concern...I suppose I should just pony up and send you some bucks if you've still got the blue filter...

I've actually paid my dues to the UC club and hope I can make the annual meeting this weekend...Me and my camera....Hopefully next time i can drive the 40...

Temp sending unit

I pulled the tarp back and took a look. That is where my temperature sending unit is located.

cool...my sending unit is at the top of the junction above the valve...maybe I'll just take off that valve and the hose going to the front radiator hose and put in a new sending unit...

Little update...

Got my bumpers back from the frame shop...They are now nice and straight so I got the front bumper on and the back mocked up...Still have to get the back bumper sandblasted and painted...And of course a dash picture...I put volt and amp gauge where the ashtray goes because I don't have an ashtray...Let me know what you think of the bumpers....

That is just sweeet lookin!

Real crisp & clean :)

I can hear it cryin out for mud from here ;)

Great job! It looks like you are doing one kick ass job of putting her back together:grinpimp:

Keep up with the pictures and be proud to drive that rig when done:cheers:

Props to the :princess: for finding it for you..... you have yourself a good one there with her:clap:

IMO, not a huge fan of the bumpers. If its me i would go with the stock stuff. Love the dash, she continues to finish out real nice.

Thanks....The rear bumper is a temporary "use what you got" thing at the moment until I decide what I want there...I like the front okay though...

Any Idea what these diagonal holes would have been for on the rear of the fenders? They are on both fenders drilled diagonally....Can't imagine what would have been on both sides...Any ideas on something to put there or how to plug/fill them would be great...

Mocked up the jump seats today...All the seats still need the frames cleaned up but they'll look good...I need to get seatbelts too...

I'm pretty sure they're not factory holes...just wondering what could be on both the fenders at the rear with that bolt pattern....

You should have some steps, like these black ones in this pic:

Not sure why they are drilled so high though? Should have a lip across the bottom of the fender with holes, even if they were the early(FJ25 type) short steps ...
