This is an update on the dash....I found and figured out how to put on the front drive switch and vacuum assembly, I also found a cool pin with red "handle" to put in the transfer lever that will keep my little one from pulling it down.....
I refurbished and reinstalled the oil pressure gauge that was previously installed in the dash...

For the turn signal indicators I had the housing but no bulb assemblies so I bought 2 red led bulbs (1/2" diameter) from autozone and they were a perfect push fit into the housing....I need to find a housing for the front drive indicator and I can put a green led in it...

Is their a reason I'd need a throttle knob on the dash? Not sure of its purpose...I've got the wiper switch sitting in the hole above the light switch but am going to move it down I think...

I'm getting the bumpers straightened at a frame shop this week and will pick them up Friday, get them sandblasted, primed and painted black...They're both custom made but got a little crooked over the years...

Do you have an autozone part number for the LED's you're using for the blinkers? I would like to check them out, I have an autozone just down the road a bit.

I have used my hand throttle under 2 circumstances.

1. slowly move the vehicle down a dirt road while giving my foot a rest.

2. when stopped on a very steep hill where rolling back isn't an option. Pull out the hand throttle as you let off the brake and clutch.

you must remember that the throttle will stay engaged until it is pushed back in.

Rod

Thanks Rod...Maybe I'll put the dash throttle on....

Heres a pic of the green led I bought for the F.D. indicator...I don't have the packaging for the red anymore but they'll all be together by the toggle switches/electrical in autozone or advanced auto...
Green led is Part # 84917

wow. That tub looks in great shape. You got one sweet deal. I wouldn't mind paying 530 any time for this rig. Ill would restore it

I also use the hand throttle to keep RPMs up when I am winching so the alternator will help the batteries, also any time I want extra RPM for battery charging or just warming up the engine quicker.

I've also used it sometimes as a poor man's cruise control but that isn't really a safe thing to do.

Hand throttle was originally meant to control RPM when using PTO accessories (usually a winch).

Thanks guys...

My dash fine tuning continues....

I understand that the transfer lever can be used to pull the F.D. switch out when its engaged...would this long barrel nut type thing in the middle of the F.D. mechanism be used in conjunction with that? I don't understand what its use would be....I can't wait to get to a meeting to see other rigs soon...;)

Any idea what this 3 prong switch would be for? It only turns one click...on?/off?

MVC-022F-4.jpg

Next is the switch i took out of the vacuum part of the transfer case...I assume it turns on the F.D. light when it engages? If so is it something I can work on/clean up to make work? It has a white powdery residue on the internal end of it...

The Piece that I asked about above seems to bolt right in to the '65 dash and conveniently has two holes for the clutch and brake return springs...:)
I don't know why SOR shows them for 72< but it seems to make sense as it helps sturdy the steering shaft as it uses the same bolts as the column straps...

MVC-029F-4.jpg

Lastly - what is this? Does it go on the steering column? I couldnt find anything online....

Thanks for the help...

Photos

In the first photo the knob would be somewhat smaller and have F.D. on the face. I don't know about the switches. The third photo is correct. It supports the dash in it's most flimsy location and the springs do attach there. In the last photo it looks like maybe that is the part that attaches to the botton of the steering shaft (large clamp hole) and supports the column shifter where the linkage begins.

Rod

Very good....I totally forgot the 40 was originally column shift so that would make sense with the extra hole in that bracket....

The F.D. knob is one I bought from Tractor supply today so I'd not have an "empty space" where a knob goes.....Its an OCD thing which means it can only be temporary until I find the correct knob.....:)

I got a new camera! and new Hella lights.... a new aluminum cooler for the 40...and thats it....:)

Lookin sweet

I really like your rig, Can't wait to get mine going but that is a long time away. Do you know the color, I like it. I'm keeping a list so when it's time to paint I will have some good ideas. Dusty's 66 is on the short list as well. Do you know where the rubber windshield supports (attached to the hood) came from. I looked for a set but no luck. I may have to mold some up myself.

Rod

Thanks...I'll get the color from the body shop for you when I go get my bumpers Friday...The windshield supports were new in bags marked Toyota...I think they came from a Toyota dealership in Columbia, SC....I wish I'd have kept the bag..it had the part # on it..:bang:
Cant wait to put the bumpers on and take new pictures....

What a SCORE! I'll double yer money right now an giv ya $1000 bucks right now ;).

That looks like a great paint job.

Welcome to the MUD Madness :flipoff2: (official welcome sign)

You got a lot a prop's comin your way :grinpimp:

Gee, not only do you want pitch this FJ from someone who already pitched it you can't count either, 2+2=4, 4+4=8, and double means double not $1,000.

I think a little more money changed hands here than mentioned, because there has been a lot of work been done to that FJ

Very nice, OCD... and a smokin' deal.

I've used an in dash throttle for years to warm up my trucks when parking 'em outside in the winter. Fire it up, toss a little coal to it with the throttle, and walk off. Come back later when the engine is warm and the cab is uh, not.

Thanks for posting pics of your progress. If you want a pic of how the original chain and cotter pin looked I can snap you a pic of mine.

I really hate waking up to find someone calling me a liar on a public forum....I know it was a good deal...thats why I said it was pretty much a "gift"... It was stupid of him to sell it and my wife was just in the right place at the right time.... anyway - heres the paperwork for ya nonbelieving self....If you want to make a phone call from Brisbane you can just call the dealership to verify as well....

I was planning to pick up my bumpers from the Frame/body shop Friday but they said they needed a few more days.....so, I rebuilt my 1bbl Aisan carb and fabricated a light bar for my Hella's...I used square tubing like I saw someone else do here on mud...
Hopefully the brake lines will be in soon and I can actually drive it!
