Hi all,
My name is Jim....
Yesterday when I woke, I was perfectly content owning my stock '67 VW Beetle....
A few hours later, after a phone call from my wife, I found myself owning a '65 FJ40...
Its not finished yet but lots of new parts are in boxes waiting on me....
Anyway...heres what $530 bought in South Carolina yesterday.....
I have no idea what i'm doing as of yet but thanks to my VW buddy on thesamba.com I found this site....

That looks great, seems like a solid foundation and it should be a ton of fun to get it going.

It was pretty much a gift...My wife sells cars and she overheard the owner of the dealership saying he'd almost give away the landcruiser (his personal resto - lost interest) just to get the space in the service dept...She told him "you don't have to give it away, I'll give you 500 bucks for it"...She was sorta joking but he said "thats fine but i have to charge you sales tax"...Thats how it ended up being 530....I think he said he had about 14k in it already in parts and body work/paint....It was media blasted prior to paint...

What a SCORE! I'll double yer money right now an giv ya $1000 bucks right now ;).

That looks like a great paint job.

Welcome to the MUD Madness :flipoff2: (official welcome sign)

You got a lot a prop's comin your way :grinpimp:

Holy cow! There's thousands and thousands in body work alone there! What an awesome score. You've come to the right place to help get that rig put back together, which is what I assume are your plans.

Take your time, look at the selection of ROTW vehicles to get ideas on what direction you want to take the truck. Then you can do some FAQ searches for those mods and bounce further questions about those mods off of the viewers.

Hint: if you post links to the mods you're looking at, it helps convice the readership you're actually USING the search function.;)

BTW, I'm partial to '65s.

Best

Thanks for the input....I'm going to get everything correct mechanically, electrically, then aesthetically....Thanks for the advice and links....:) I'll be here reading and searching for a while....It'll take some time to go through my new toy and look, learn, and list what to do...I'm excited...

Mooker, I'm in Florence so the Lowcountry club would probably suit me best....Looking forward to getting roadworthy so I can join in on some fun....

edit: I see you're in the upstate even though you live in Charleston Mooker82.....I'll check them out....

Wow, you got ripped off! :D haha.

No seriously, great score there.

Do you know what year the drive train is out of? Is that a 4 speed transmission?

Well, at least the head isn't original. I'm pretty sure pre 67 had "siamese port" heads. Yours looks like the "normal" F style head. I could be mistaken though. Do you have a single or double barrel carb there? It looks like your intake is setup is possibly stock, but with custom headers of some sort. I haven't heard of headers with the siamese ports.

It looks like a single bbl carb...Not sure about the rest though....I'm having it towed from the dealership Monday morning so I'll be able to "dig in" to it a bit more.....
Although this is one of the earlier resto pics, the engine/drivetrain hasnt changed....

The Lowcountry club is a division of the Upstate club. Great looking truck again and a smoking deal!

Thanks Mooker82...I should have looked around first...:o But I see the relation now.....Lowcountry chapter seems like it'll work for me...Thanks

Wow! That has to be the best deal ever! I guess there is truth to the fact of letting someone else go broke doing a restoration and buying it for pennies on the dollar. Congratulations, and welcome:flipoff2:. Good luck with your project.

Your wife done GOOOOD! I got my 60 for free, and that wasn't near as good as the deal she scored. Nevermind that you're still going to dump lots of cash into it:D, congrats on a GREAT buy!
