I dont want to go back stock on the seats. Looking for ideas and pictures of what other mudders have done. please post em up with information on what they are. Does not matter if they are bench or not

For a bench, I'd look at a Jeep Comanche pickup (admittedly rare) or a Dodge Dakota (mid-size) pickup, as being close to the right width. Many seats will be physically so bulky they will encroach on your already rare legroom. A 'cruiser buddy and I were studying the seats in my '87 Camry, which are bolstered, cloth buckets, and deciding they'd look good in a 'cruiser. You'll have to build a completely custom seat frame (in most cases) to support whatever you choose.
Don't forget that the fuel filler neck may require some clearance with whatever seat you install - you could either shift the seat over, or modify and upholster it to clear the filler neck.

I rebuilt my OEM seats (springs, foam, burlap, vinyl) and included a lumbar support foam slice under the driver's lower back section. Good, but not great, for sure.

high back bench seats

I am planning to use seats out of a 2007 GMC van (like they use for U-haul trucks). They are a bench on the passenger side, bucket on the drivers, just like the original 45 seats. They have bucket seat high-backs on both, and a fold down center back section with storage in it. I will post up pictures when I get home tonight or in the morning. I have not permanantly mounted them yet, but have done all of my test fitting. I am mounting both of them on the original 45 seat frames. They dont protrude into your leg space, and because they are designed for a truck cab, they have very upright backs that dont interfere with the cab back (the problem most buckets have in the 45). They even seem to fit around the filler neck nicely. I'll post pics.

pics of my seats

here are a couple pics of the seats... it looks like the passenger is higher than the driver, but that is because I still had it on the GMC mount at the time. Once I took it off of that and used the landcruiser tube mounting, it sits the same height as the drivers.

please post the pix , I have been looking, the best upright seats I have found are in the UPS vans I just havent found out who makes them.....

I like that, is the picture with the seats all theway back???

back

I dont have the sliding mechanism on the drivers seat right now, but yeah, the seat is as far back as it will go in this photo. I am pretty sure at least. I will be out int he garage again tomorrow, so if you want I can re-set the mock up, with the gas tank and proper seat mounts and take some more informative photos for you. The drivers seat back is even designed to fold forward, giving you access to the very small space behind the seat.

I intend to install headrest speakers (like a miata), so that I can actualy hear the stereo (and since space is so limited in the cab). But mostly I like hte high backs so that if I ever get rearended, my head doesnt bust out the back window.

This is the info I was looking for. What model truck did these come out of so I can start looking in the scrap yards

model

I dont know the exact model, I grabbed them from E-bay after seeing them in a u-haul truck I rented. Mine were froma 2007 GMC "G-Van". The single buckets are easy to find on e-bay, it took a coulple weeks of waiting to find the bench. If you do go the ebay route (or any other route that involves shipping), have them remove the base from the passenger seat if you plan to use your OEM gas tank. The base weighs about 50lbs, no need to ship that! However, if you are using a out-of-cab gas tank, you might like the GMC base, it provides lockable storage under the seat, and is even shapped to go around the tranny hump perfectly.

Hello Freil101, you don't have any problem with the fuel filler neck being in the way? Looks like you are going to have a sweet ride when finished.

fuel neck

No, no problems with the fuel neck. I reset the mock up and took some more shots to better show how the seats fit. Since nothing is bolted down in these shots, the cab back panel skewed a little bit, but that is only because I didnt have it fastened, not the seats fault....

boxes

Thanks. The boxes are a mess, we just moved (okay, it was like 3 months ago). But if anyone int he phoenix area wants to come take about 50 non-working pachinko machines and 8 non-working full size Bally slot machines out of my garage, I will help you load them. That would free up a ton of space (I'm serious.... free if you come get them).

Hope the seat pics helped some folks.
