I have an '88 FJ-62 that needs a transmission (again.) My question before I do a direct changeout is can I install a later model landcruiser transmission with better reliability. I bought this vehicle new in 1988 and it's a great truck, but thr transmission is definitely the weak link.

Unfortunately not - the easiest solution would be to swap in another automatic transmission, or just go to a H55F manual.

Just took the tranny out of my 62 to switch over to the h55. It needs new seals but that should be pretty straight forward. We live in Temple. Dm if you need it. D

The easiest would be @Hammer45 ’s tranny.
The smartest (not that easy) would be H55 swap.

I did the the tranny dance within the last year, 4 total, H55 is a dream but not without its quirks.

do you have an extra cooler for the trans? heat is a killer for the trans
how many miles on the current trans?

I could use the tranny if nobody else needs it! I am in Denver but could send someone to get it...

Valley Hybrids might have a rebuilt A440. They will soon anyway since I just sent my old one there on Friday.
I’ve donated two.
(Edit: not trying to show you up, just saying there might be more…)

I would love a rebuilt one from Georg but right now I just need one quick! I bought a 62 with a bad trans from a guy in the army, he included a spare trans he had. He was out of town for awhile and I could not pick up the trans. Turns out he just got deployed for 9 months so I have a 62 sitting in my garage with the trans and tcase out and need a trans ASAP!

Georg, let me know if you have one... I owe your a phone call anyway 🙄😁

Thanks all! And sorry for hijacking the thread...

Would love to gift it to you but we are out of the country and the return will be awhile. Mine would need some work as any fluid put in it promptly went into the transfer and then out the back and onto the garage floor. On a bright note, we got to meet up with @zeeklafreek here in Germany for a nice dinner and a ride in the beautiful Betty Blue!

I sent you a dm if you want it. I need the linkage off of it so I can send it to @cruisermatt since you already have yours.
