62 cup holders on 60 console (1 Viewer)

So prototype 1.0 is made and ready to ship out. I should have info and pics on fitment by the end of the week. Here's how it looks right now.
The phone in the pics may seem small because it is. It's the old Samsung S4 mini. Made to match the old iphone size. I made sure the slots can also hold the largest phones on the market.

I'm still not 100% sure of the differences between the 60 and 62 console but my goal will be to create something that will fit both and look like it belongs in both. After making the first prototype I can get a more accurate number on pricing. Looks like I will be right around $45. I might be able to get that down to $40 as I fine tune the design and possibly decrease material use.

So I made a rough CAD mock up of the insert for the 62 series square hole on the front of the center console based on some rough dimensions I was given. Right now I have a 60 series console coming my way but I badly need a 62 series console to test fit and fine tune the design you see below. Need to borrow it for 1-2 weeks. Whoever loans me the console gets a free cup holder out of it. The current design has a slot for a phone, a cup holder and a small slot in the back for storage. Might be able to squeeze a couple pen holders in there as well like my 80 series insert.

So after a few needed changes I got the double cup holder for the 62 all dialed in. Now I'm focused on wrapping up the design for the 62 single cup holder and the 60 series double. Hope to have the next prototypes of those in the mail by Monday. Here's pics of the 62 double installed.

So I made the needed changes to the 60 and 62 cup holders and new updated versions of all are now printing. I should have the next version of prototypes in my hands in the morning. I now have a 60 console to work off of. Still badly need a 62 console for about a week of test fitting. I can continue to keep shipping the prototypes out for feeback but it's a LOT easier if I have the console in front of me to work off of.

So the 62 series double cup holder is officially done with r&d. Here is how it turned out. I added a slot on the right side to also allow you to stick your wallet in there. Now it can hold your phone, pen, wallet, and cup. Overall it can accept a flashlight, two pens, 2 cups, 2 phones, and a wallet. I did my absolute best to utilize the space available and make it as functional as possible.

Here is the 60 series double cup holder design. It's 99% done with design.





And finally, here is the 62 series single square insert. This design is about 80% done. It holds a cup, phone, 2 pens, and a small slot for storage. In the pic it's installed backwards. The phone goes towards the dash and tilts back facing the driver.

Wow! Approval from the man himself. Sweet! Do you currently own a 60? You were the person that supported me from the very beginning. You gave me that grille to make the first TEQ badge. It's nice to have the two double cup designs done. Version 5.0 of the single cup will ship out to you tomorrow morning. Hopefully this one will fit perfect (fingers crossed) if not, I am going to need to track down a 62 console.

Great work! Have you thought about doing an insert for the 62 in a front to back configuration? Basically building off your single square insert and having it overlap the front with another cup holder next to the shifter. I'm a sucker for things being symmetrical

I did look into the front to back, but like the functionality of the side to side much better. When you have two 44oz. fast food drinks front to back it's a LOT harder for the driver to grab that further cup. When they are side to side you just slide your hand right in. That is the biggest thing I don't like about the 80 series cup holders I made for my 80. I will always try a left to right design if the space allows. The 60 and 62 gave me the perfect amount of space for that approach so I went with it. I actually put the 60 console in my 80 all last week for a real world test run. The side to side cups were a nice feature. My wife agreed as well. there is a reason why all car manufacturers go side to side when the width of the console allows it.
