Hello everyone! After lot of researching decided buying 100 series over 80. However I am still not happy with the 5 bolt version. I have an 80 full float axle which would be an easy fit to the rear but how to convert the front? The hub very similar to the 2nd gen 4runner hub setup, but probably the disc is much smaller. I've been search high and low but couldn't find any useful info beside SAS conversions.

you will not be able to use a 4runner hub and bearing unless you swap diffs and everything else. unless your planning on doing a sas there isn't going to be an easy way to go to a 6 lug hub.

why no love for the 5 lug hub?

Anything you'd put on there with 6 lugs would be a downgrade from what you've got, IMO. Why does the number of lugs bother you?

Since that 80 rear axle is quite a bit narrower than your 100 axle, that makes things even harder. You might be better off using a spacer/adapter to get that FF rear axle to 5 lug to match the front. (but I think that would need a two-piece adapter, which would make me nervous)

Even the 70 series runs a 5 lug setup now. Outside of wanting to run different wheels, I see no benefit of 6 over 5 lugs... And that wouldn't be a benefit in my opinion as you'd be running a lug pattern adapter.

The old saying "the truck with the most lugs wins" can be thrown out the window in my opinion.

Thank you for the responses. I am not sure if any adapter is street legal. What I found on net many people prefer 6 lug due to bigger Toyota wheel selection, but for me the real advantage is the full float axle and rear diff lock. Is the 80 rear really narrower? What I've read that the 80 and 100 shearing the same chassis.

That's right! My bad. Only the 105 has the same chassis. (Some reason I thought only the front susp/axle is different.

Looking at the Toyot DIY page the rear end of the frame and suspension still shares a lot of things on all 80/100/105.

They have plenty of similarities, but the UZJ100 rear axle is roughly 4" wider than the 80 series.

Isn’t there also a strength advantage of a 32 spline axle on our 100’s vs 30 spline in the 80? And we have a rear diff lock in 98 & 99 LC’s.

To me full floater is still a winner over 32 spline. Of course now we could argue about cro-mo axles and ring and pinion....:)
