Regarding chain and chain tensioner noise and eventually issues, my opinion is that timely oil changes (to keep the tensioner actuator clean) and 5W30 (or 0W30) vs 0W20 is the way to go (to increase oil pressure on the tensioner actuator).

That definitely won't hurt, but there's a decent chance your 2021 already has updated parts that won't suffer the same issues in the first place.

OP, of your original post, what the $3500 covered? Toyota would tell you the labor and parts separate costs. Is the $3.5k just labor and then parts? It would be about other $900 in parts. I guess the "good thing" in your case is that since you are doing the timing cover and the cams leaks, then the valley coolant is basically a by product of that and it should cost very little extra rather than if you are doing just the valley coolant leak as linuxgod said it runs about $1200 to $1800 or so just to do that job.

Also, even though I really wish the LC200 won't suffer from this 3 or 4 engine related issues like the LC100 or 5th Gen T4R's which are basically trouble free engine wise, it appears from my reading and after watching AMD's videos, that none of this issues are catastrophic, other than the valley coolant leak which if it is bad you would have seen it on the floor, so relatively easy to spot on time.

Cheers !

Thanks for your input. I did watch the recent Car Care Nut video before posting this. I also watched AMD's video about the LX vs the Land Cruiser awhile back and he calls out the Cam Tower Leak in that video as a possible issue, that is what brought this to my attention.

I wanted to get details more specific to the 200 series and see if anyone else has dealt with this and what their parts list included. My Dealership did not recommend water pump, thermostat, PCV value, Heat Exchanger, or replacing the valley plate as AMD did, so wanted to get some more opinions on the matter. Hopefully the LC has some better parts but I really don't know. I did ask that the water pump, thermostat be replaced as well. I think I caught it early enough that the time chain and the lower chain tensioners are ok. There is a long list of gaskets and seals to be replaced and I know the Toyota Dealership does this job quite often. Toyota quoted about $3500 which included around 17 hrs of labor. Plus I had them add on the water pump and thermostat, so probably another couple hundred dollars.

At this point I'm trying to Own Nothing & Be Happy™. LOL

Will personally go back to only leasing. Ive seen all I needed to see and met all the personalities I needed to meet.

Glad I own one of the last dinosaur trucks I guess. But TBH I wouldn't do it again. The 100 was peak LC IMO.

So, maybe get another LC100 ? 🔥👌🏿

I look at leasetrader once in a while. $1k a month for a lease on anything any good in my opinion.
On the other hand, when you sell, the next guy will be on here with your old rig with 300k and no problems😂

I used to pay around that back in the day for cars nearing $100k. Recently seen lease deals that could turn your stomach fam!
For $1k a month you are getting like a c class lol.

If I ever sold the truck it would have to be to a mud member, no one will appreciate anything I've done and all my mods are seamless and only there to remedy factory perceived shortcomings. But hey, Lexus, I fixed your truck for you... 😈

Man I am just going through this now, I think. I thought it was a steering pump replacement, as two places told me. Toyota specialist place I took it to steam cleaned the engine and wants to put dye in the engine to make sure it isn't this. For all of the reliability this thing is supposed to have ,reading about the radiator issues in models up to 2018, and now all of this myriad list of crap really turns me off from the truck itself. I feel like I might just get rid of it depending on what the dye shows in a few hundred miles. Severely, severely disappointing after spending almost a year to find one rust free and in good condition. What's the point of this, if the reliability isn't there? And toyota almost never steps up? Again, severely disappointed.

I have no idea and really honestly am turned off from putting much more energy into finding something that "just works". I pay this thing off next month too. Infuriating.

This is supposed to be the “best Land Cruiser ever made”.😢

Yes sir. I still have do a preventative starter, radiator, and accompanied bits and bobs just for peace of mind because they absolutely WILL fail, and still have zero faith in the thing not leaking, cracking an exhaust manifold, or worse breaking a valve spring or something totaling the truck.

Theres also a million small issues on my truck that it’s just so far from the lauded reliability and fit and finish that I honestly don’t take a single thing I read on MUD seriously anymore.

I’m just here on year three making the truck something I like. Slight lift, real wheel n tires, so on. Total waste of time and money i would never do this again lol.

Find me a vehicle that does what a 200 does both on-road and off, in this price range, and is more dependable overall.

I’ll wait.

The LC100 from what people are posting all over this board? It seems like?
Less safe to haul family around, can’t tow as much, 120-150 less horsepower, worse mileage, AHC isn’t as dependable…

I guess so lol. For what it's worth the people at this toyota specialist shop said it was rare for them to encounter it. I hope that is my case.
