Is this looking up towards the pax side? I think I see the starter is why I’m asking. I also want to check mine for this. TIA
Appears so. That's why I mention valve cover gasket.. mine has started weeping a bit on that side.
Could be cam tower, but there is another potential source of oil high up on that side.
@ndouglas to tell the difference they'd need to get another picture looking at the top of the manifold through the wheel well. A good tech could also tell the difference in person.
Valve cover will be *much* easier and cheaper to fix than the cam tower.
Looking at a 2009 LX570 with 150,000 miles. Its has this leak on the skid plate near the rear of the engine where it’s meets the trans. The area above on the engine is super dry. The dealerships shop took a look at it and said it was valve cover gaskets. Does this seem plausible? I don’t have any more pictures but I’m going to take another look later this week. Also may have it taken to a Lexus or Toyota dealer for a PPI. If it’s just valve cover gaskets im not too concerned but if it’s cam tower that’s obviously a way bigger repair.
I did just didn't take picture. The valve cover I looked at was super clean but they had also detailed the engine bay. I did not look at the backside of the engine. We were traveling through on a family trip so didnt have a ton of time and didn't find the leak until right before I left.
Put the suspension in high and look into the top of the wheel well.. with a bright flashlight you have your arguably best look at the area. If it had significant leaks in the area there should be evidence, even if it was power washed.
