Yeah yeah, pics or it didn't happen, I'll post up a pic tomorrow when it is light out to take a pic, but I felt like putting this out there now. I have a 1991 FJ80 that came from the factory without the fender flares. The 32 11.5 15 tires that were on there stuck out a bit. Would have been perfect with flares. Tonight I bolted on a set of silver 4Runner sport wheels and a new set of Cooper Discoverer ATP 265 75 16 tires with no wheel spacer. There is no rub, and the offset is about perfect for not having fender flares. Anyway, you'll see tomorrow. I know you can't wait.

Sorry for the delay
Here it is. Note the perfect backspacing for the 80 without flares. Also those wheels were a steal for $100.

Yeah, you gots the stink for sure. But that never bothered me that much. I do like the stock 15 wheels but couldn't find a set in my price range (<$100).

Looks like the stock alloys, does it have different backspacing or something?

I am personally a fan of the no-flare look. The flares were the first thing that turned me off of the 80 when it first came out. I think that they look gay. They also get broke too often.
Mine was rolled when I bought it. I had a choice to either pay $200 each for new left flares, or to scrape off the undamaged two on the right side. I gave my right flares to a guy who needed them. They went to a good cause. The rig looks better without them. BTW, I am running 315 Nittos, flareless. I get very little mud spatter.
In normal use, I get just a light spatter of mud on the lower sides. In fact, every time that I wash and wax it, I go looking for that light spatter. A clean LC doesn't look right without it. A light spatter of mud on the lower sides is the way that a real rig should look. Where I live, that is a Land Cruiser in its natural state! When my truck is clean and shiny, with a spatter of mud on the sides, all is right in my world.

Yeah, those are stock rims from my 88 4runner. Threw them on for a while to see what 33's felt like. Did no offroading but they never rubbed for the week or so I left them on. Used no spacers

When the CIA was tracking Bin Laden, they mostly tracked his #1 deputy. He was driving an 80. It looked just like mine, except that it was white, and it had stock bumpers. In that part of the world, the 80 is sold stock with a 2.5" lift over the American spec. It has 33-34" tires stock. That is the way that the 80 was designed to be. They dummed them down in North America and Western Europe to appeal to soccor moms. They put on squishy springs and skinny tires.
Mine, with a 2.5" lift and 34" tires is just a stock truck, the way that Toyota designed it to be. The only exceptions are the hard steel bumpers and the winch.
Any Western spec truck without mods is sub-standard. It is not what Toyota designed it to be.

Heres mine with flares. I'm doing the Captain Morgan.

I'm running 1.25" spacers. I'm having alot of vibrations due to the the 16x7 rim width and the 295/75/16 tires. Supposedly because of the side walls.

Nice pose. You inspired me to get a beer while I type the rest of my post. brb....
okay,
So I raced cars for a while, and we would never dream of putting spacers on a car due to the possibility of the rim not sitting centered. I don't know if your spacers and your rims are centered properly, (probably are) but if the spacer is not sitting perfectly centered on the hub/brake center ring, that can be a source to introduce vibration.
Anyway, good lookin rig.

Thanks Pursuit, I see you are partial to red. I like it so far, and still am in the process of baselining it, I got a killer deal on it, and it was in the best condition of any I looked at, FJ or FZJ, $2500 or $6000. Seems like a bit of an odd duck to me though, it came stock with no fender flares, (see the chrome fender lip?) has a non split full bench rear seat, 0 rust, and I do mean absolutely 0 rust, no sliding 3rd row windows, no 3rd row seats, no sun roof, 4" speakers all around (which sucks, gotta do something about that), but seems pretty solid. 198k on it now. Maybe it was the first one brought into the states, kinda like a hybrid 62/80.

What did you use to plug the holes where the roof rack side rails go? I've been thinking of taking my side rails off but don't want to deal with taking all the ribs off.

I bought Stainless metric socket head screws. I covered them with silicone afterwards.

offset looks perfect w/out the flares ....but it REALLY looks like a 4runner esp w/ the trim

Are you sure about that? None of the JDM trucks are factory lifted and they all have the same tire size that was sold on the NA-spec trucks.

Will the center cap fit on the front wheels?
